With a career spanning more than a decade, Leonardo’s DJ career started in Florence in 2001, and was heavily influenced by the acid-house and Detroit techno scenes that stormed the 90s. Initially appearing on our radar with the aptly named “The First Detour EP” on Detroit Swindle’s illustrious Heist Recordings, OUER has become a staple in our feeds (and our shelves) with their simply named series of self-released EPs. And while they may have got their start sampling random records from local stores, they are decidedly a live duo, focused on creating music in a way that combines the best of the past and present while paying tribute to the halcyon days of house and techno.

On C, we continue the alphabetical series’ three-track format set by A and B. The EP stays true to the Berlin-based duo’s attitude towards disregarding genre specific boundaries, resulting in a diverse release tied together mainly by its production style and overall tone (which is deeper and darker than previous outputs). This edition feels the most like OUER’s true ambitions, successfully realizing their (clearly broad) tastes in a unique and memorable way.

“Charon”, is a slow-building, atmospheric jam that steadily adds melodic and rhythmic elements as it kicks along before cutting into a stripped back, bloop and bleep-filled groove that works its way through the rest of the track. Synthetic chords and quirky melodies occupy the main focus of the track while the arrangement works in an almost cyclical way, its long runtime putting the listener in a trance that was likely shared by its careful creators.

First up on the fresh Amsterdam-based label Late Night Burners is Kurley’s debut “Feelings EP”. For this young and very talented musician anything goes, as long as it’s unique, warm, rhythmic, and raw, and this five tracker perfectly showcases this ethos.

From the uplifting, acid-driven title track, we dive straight into “Heartbeat”, taking us a level deeper. On the B-side Kurley starts off with the stabby, slightly melancholic “Long Time” while never losing the floor out of sight, preparing us for the vocoder-infused killer “Groove All Night”. Closing off the EP is “Tribute”, bringing a more exotic type of heat. In short: a lot to love.

Every raver has their sunrise story. It usually takes place around 6 AM, after dancing all night, when the first rays of light usher in a new musical energy, something wild and magical. It’s the kind of moment people romanticize for years, even decades after. Such was the desired effect of Luzon’s 2002 classic Manila Sunrise. The tune contains a raw, tribal energy that few others can claim. Drawing influence from the Goa scene, it’s twirling pads and majestic vocal made it an instant progressive house staple that redefined the genre. We’re proud to bring back this insatiable classic for our fifteenth Yoshitoshi Classic remix pack, with contributions from three of today’s finest producers — label owner Sharam, Swiss studio ace Khainz, and New York techno legend Boris.

Sharam’s remix adds some modern flare to the original's progressive nature. He injects some dark, drum n’ bass-inspired sounds, a catchy new melody, and a beautiful, pad-and-vocal driven breakdown that transports listeners and club-goers to another dimension. Khainz makes his Yoshitoshi debut with a remix that boasts a myriad of stabs, effects, and other synth wizardry over a driving, tech house groove. His monstrous builds give away to exhilarating, unapologetic release. Finally, Boris transforms the track into a percussion-driven monstrosity that smacks of the classic New York 90's techno sound. The mix itself is built around banging drums and heavy bass, while the original’s delicate vocal contrasts the brutal nature of his remix, creating a powerful sonic dichotomy.
