DC Promo Tracks #778: Desert Island Disco "Jikavonunu"

A new label from Kinfolk records founder - and a 14 of a Soft Rock - Christopher Galloway is upon us. 

This first release sees the beautiful sounds of Torn Sail/Huw Costin revamped by the mighty production force that is Mark Rayner and Matt Horobin, aka Shrinkwrap.

Shrinkwrap are a production team that have been in the wilderness for a number of years but are much lauded by The Idjut Boys - amongst others - which has seen them release on Discfunction and U-Star.

Being close friends with Huw Costin, they decided to get together and re-work the track Gain On Gains that featured on Torn Sail's 2017 long player, This Short Sweet Life.

These two re-works see Shrinkwrap take the original into an extended/after-hours bliss out of epic proportions and an ambient dub. 

Added to the package is an unreleased on vinyl mix of Costin's Disconnected cut from 2015. This is a more folk-infused affair that once again ventures into epic territory thanks to the production skills of Rayner and Horobin.

A lovely EP to kick off this new label.

Italo-House classic “Tumbe” released in 1992 on Irma Records with Murk edits is here again with new fresh remixes.
Cesare Collina aka Tito Valdez and Umberto Damiani join forces 30 years ago to make “The big nowhere” version; with percussions played by Cesare, tropical voices and trancy pads.
On the remixes duties we have legendary Riviera hero Ricky Montanari, Dirty grooves master LTJ and the young House head Hill.
Ricky found an unreleased remix jam of “Tumbe” he did in the 90s with his classic Riviera Traxx groove which doesn’t need any presentation.
LTJ made a slow version with his unique beat, accompanied by atmospheric pads, lovely electric guitar riff and classic Rhodes.
Hill made a Paradise mix with dreamy Pianos, funky bassline and old school strings which goes to close this record in the best way.

"In Plain Sight" is a debut collaborative album coming from a deep house/jazz duo and live act performance unit based in Zagreb. For their first LP record, electronic music producer Jan Kinčl (Zagreb, Croatia) and keyboard player https://soundcloud.com/regis-kattie (Amiens, France) came up with a very jazz-informed deep house record through which they tried to explore the combination of genres they’re influenced by, and put their own spin on it.
For well over 15 years Jan’s been a regular fixture on the regional music scene through his activity as techno/house DJ, producer, live act performer, radio broadcaster, label owner and a party organizer. Basically, if you scratch the surface of electronic music in Croatia, it’s hard to come across something Jan hasn’t been involved with.
Regis had a somewhat different path. Born in Northern France, in the city of Amiens, he began dabbling with musical instruments at the early age of four and some years later started taking classical piano lessons. It didn’t take long before he developed a soft spot for a more open approach in playing which inevitably led to jazz piano in his early twenties, a discipline he’s been committed to ever since. After spending some time in Canada, Regis moved to Zagreb in 2010, where he soon became an integral part of the local jazz scene.

Jan and Regis met during 2016, and the fact they’re both coming from different geographical and musical backgrounds makes the line where they connect that much more interesting. When combined, their roots become an eclectic amalgam of genres - ranging from house, to jazz, acid, Detroit techno and classical music; paired with improvisational nature of their live shows this is what makes it possible to ride that fine line so well.

“In Plain Sight” is almost invariably leaning towards organic and looser side of house music, and features two additional musicians - Zagreb bassist Luka Veselinović from the https://soundcloud.com/luka-veselinovic and https://soundcloud.com/mirsad-dalipi, a Kosovo-born drummer and percussionist from https://soundcloud.com/gipsy-groove-music band.
The record consists of 6 songs, 4 of which are studio pieces, 2 are taken directly from live show recordings. The album has been getting immense support from all over the world and from the likes of Laurent Garnier, Volcov, Alex Barck (Jazzanova), Claude Young, Rainer Trueby, DJ Nobu, Tony Humphries, Marcel Vogel, Kai Alcé, Lefto and many others, which just confirms Jan and Regis are onto something good.

After a smash debut on WOLF Music last year, respected Montreal DJ and producer, Gene Tellem, returns for another filler-free four tracker primed for the discerning dancefloor.

On this standout cut, Jenifa Mayanja, esteemed DJ, producer, remixer, label owner, mentor and leading ambassador for women in the underground house community and culture, puts her finely crafted stamp on "Aint Got Everything". 

Mayanja pulls "Aint Got Everything" deep into her sound, with its signature hints of techno, jazz, soul and African music lifting it into a spiritual journey for the mind, body and soul, with hypnotic arps and pulsating analogue textures that give way to a euphoric piano breakdown.

Connecticut-based, Uganda-born, Mayanja has deep roots in the East Coast dance scene, going back 25 years, buying at Joe Clausell's sorely missed Dancetracks in NYC and playing at Body & Soul. Deep in the culture of the sound she began to produce music herself, debuting on her own Bu-mako imprint. 

The 'Mind Reader EP' sees digital and vinyl release on February 26th.
