This song describes a distance relationship, where two only find common ground and meet (fall thru ) during the summer months. The writer begins to explain ("let me give you the run down")how things have changed for him, how much he has grown within himself and his beliefs; his new approach to life and to their relationship are expressed throughout the song. Finally he pleas that his words do not fall deaf on her  ears and  are not to be  forgotten "even when the summer ends".
