Prepare yourself for heavy , bass-driven electro. This ain't no minimal experimental album. Even breaks heads will love tracks like Scape Ones "Android robotics," while Decals "From the Inside" can do some serious dance floor damage. An emotional ride with EMS's "Take my Time" takes the edge off of the overall acid feel of this album. Remember your squatting days in that abandoned industrial site? This was your Soundtrack!

Can't thank anyone enough that's supported my music this year on Bandcamp, it's been the real shining light in a shit show of a year. 

Here's 6 tracks influenced by visits to 90s raves.

X - Perience

Lighting the way for a full-length 44 track album which includes styles like Bmore, Techhouse, Ghettotech, Electro, and Juke, DJ Godfather releases Show Some Respect EP. Introducing a snippet of the sounds we can learn to expect from this producer, the treat is in the unwrapping as we get to grips with this new sound collection. The work on the album has been mastered in such a way that the tracks bleed into each other, making seamless transitions of power seem like child's play. The following six months will see a gradual release of the entire production via these teasing yet generous stand alone instalments. This way, other DJs get samples of greater works that they can acquire and listeners can enjoy the definitive sounds of DJ Godfather.


It begins with Show Some Respect. An up-beat snappy rhythm starts and it's heavy on snare. Then, bass and sound effects wander in with a casual swagger. Meandering synthesiser tones dig out channels of bass-line while wispy and diverse sonics dance in a well-made choreography. Playful edges and plenty of drumming energy thrash out their differences over the chewy and deep-reach undertones. A choppy vocal enters, sneaking in syllables in expert time. Dancing forces spin us around as interesting and catchy sounds create a unique digital brew.


Track two begins with a driving rhythm, laid back yet fast in tempo. Shakers and bass dig around the pockets for a lighter, entering the realms of Sunday Morning Spliff. The music opens with a new layering of quick hats that roll and tumble with the addition of slow and graceful piano tones. Keyboards sway over like flowing curtains or the ends of a dress as its owner walks briskly past. Plucked strings from violin echo into blank spaces as framings of temporal beats bubble and effervesce.


A retro futuristic synth motif begins, it's melodic and rhythmic. Fun bass and drumming create a backdrop for a man talking about strippers. These Strippers takes us into the mind of a person who has lost self-control over two professional sex workers. All that pent up sexual energy has to come from somewhere, what drives people to such activities? As a work of art, the music makes you think about the basic desires and instincts that some find more difficult to handle than others. The track is listed twice, once as a vocal version and again as a running instrumental that holds the energy for another round of the circuit. It also gives us a chance to listen to the progressions and harmonies without the distraction.

Continuing the Databass EP series focussing on tracks from DJ Godfather’s ‘Electro Beats For Freaks’ album, February sees the release of the second EP, ‘Keep My Name Out Your Mouth’ and turns the spotlight on some of the album’s more Jit and Footwork flavoured cuts.

Now in all their full-length glory are the snappy ‘Keep Your Name Out My Mouth’ featuring the unstoppable Lil Mz 313, ‘King of The Circle’ which pays homage to Detroit jitters and features Godfather’s scratching skills, or as he puts it “making the turntable an instrument again”, and ‘Allow Me To Reintroduce Myself’ which was the album’s Electro-fied opener. ‘Certified Freak Hoe’ featuring King Saadi is also presented across three versions – the full length original and two BPM variations.

‘Keep My Name Out Your Mouth EP’ is released February 19th and will be followed in March by the third in the series, ‘Up All Night EP’.

Godfather has had a very successful career over the years. Voted 15th best DJ in America by the readers of DJ Times and Pioneer Pro DJ for 2011 and in 2012 out of the top 100, best DJ in Detroit by Real Detroit magazine 5 years in a row (2008-2013), and is now the Red Bull Thre3stlye champion of Detroit for 2013! With sponsorships from Serato and Native Instruments, Godfather currently released an expansion pack entitled Dirty Knock for the iMaschine and Maschine, the industry standard drum machine by Native Instruments with endorsements from Diplo, Lil Jon, Steve Aoki, Disco Fries, Danny Daze, DJ Fuck and more. He plays it all from open format/mashup parties to  house to the deepest trap, ghetto tech and juke parties incorporating his battle style turntablism in his sets. He has played across the globe numerous times in cities all over Europe, Asia, Australia, United States, Canada, China, Japan and South America and receives worldwide recognition.

Lets take a look at it from the beginning!:

DJ Godfather is considered one of the founding fathers of the genre we now know as Ghetto Tech. He started DJing at the age of 15 with the help of, now business partner, DJ Dick. Within a few months of getting his turntables, Godfather was already playing in nightclubs and after hour parties all over Detroit. He started producing at the age of 17 for his first Miami Bass style group Bass Association. With the buzz of a few singles off the Bass Association album on 3 Detroit radio stations, Godfather made his first solo record at the age of 18 on the now Twilight 76 Records entitled "Work Dat". Taking his turntablism skills and mixing Detroit Techno music with Miami Bass music, and new sound was born, Ghetto Tech. With the formation of their new record label Twilight 76 with partners DJ Dick and Brian Gillespie, he took his talent and turned it into an entire business creating 3 other labels known as Databass Records, D.E.T. Only (An exclusive label with only 1000 copies of each release), and Juke Trax (A label dedicated to the Chicago style of Ghetto House and Juke music). With all 4 record labels combined, Godfather and his partners released over 250 vinyl releases and mix CD releases, selling over 800,000 units worldwide. You can hear DJ Godfather tracks on the 2 videos games, NBA 2K6 and NBA 2K7 on 2K Sports. He was also the first DJ to be released on the Serato digital download series, using Scratch Live technology and tracks only available digitally for a mix cd entitled "For The Freaks". With 12" vinyl record sales slowing down over the past years, Godfather and his partners stopped pressing vinyl and embraced the digital download world with their own digital distribution company and 2 online MP3 stores, Secretremixes.com for Mashups and DJ Remixes along with Electrobounce.com for Trap, Ghetto Tech, Electro, Techno and Juke music. They also started Soundbully, A digital distribution company that offers digital distribution to over 187 MP3 stores and ring tone carriers worldwide.

Godfather is also producing under 2 other names. Don Dada which is a duo group with DJ Zebo out of Chicago incorporating trap music with juke, ghetto tech and electro house with 4 turntables in their live sets. Reviews have been fantastic as they already played Movement in Detroit and Spring Awakening in Chicago along with some other big music festivals. The other allis is Detroit Muscle which is strictly house music. Having remixed artists such as Lil Jon, Diplo, Aston Shuffle (Ministry Of Sound), Bad Boy Bill and more!

Recent projects Godfather has been involved in are remixes for Laidback Luke' "Pogo", Dizzee Rascal's "Bassline Junkie" and Baauer's "Harlem Shake which have all made the #1 monthly downloaded track on Serato's Whitelable.net and the 40 Oz Profits, making it in the top 100 on Beatport. Don Dada is also ready to release their Debut single "Rock Ya Whole Block" along with 2 follow up tracks.
