Studio mix, 80 min, 1210's, vinyl, no MC (~110 bpm). DnB inspired underground garage set, soulful two-step with some break beat tracks thrown in to spice it up (1996-2002). b4 there was dubstep there were the underground sounds coming out of the streets of London (and the rest of the UK, to be fair).

I thought I'd put together a mix that reminded me of the early morning sets I used to play in the London clubs and on Upfront 99.3 fm (big up all the krew). I've not heard anyone playing these types of tracks so I thought I'd upload the mix (22 tracks). Forgive the first transition as that first track is seriously off beat and it's almost impossible to blend anything into it. From there on it's pretty tight. 

Setting the scene: it's 3 or 4 am and people are starting to get tired and are thinking of going home. Then you drop that 1st track and it just blows the place up, follow up with some deeper tracks, grinding sub-bass grooves and soulful vocals and it's all over. About 1/3 rd through and it's time to start picking up the pace with some heavier beats and driving basslines - hold tight it gets a bit dark n dirty towards the end - it's like a virus...
Loads of white labels, DJ Fresh 'destiny, got this beat - ride it...' (love that track), Stanton warriors 'virus', MJ Cole 'lucky pressure' (& other dub mixes), Sugar babes 'overload' (awesome underground mix), God made me funky (serious old skool shit). many others.

I first met Klaus in the early 2000’s while I was playing the backroom of ‘The End’ nightclub in London. I’ll be honest, he scared me a little when I first me him! Ha ha. He certainly had his tough guy guard up and was making sure he gave me a good ‘suss out’ before he made any executive decisions as to whether or not this ‘Kid’ from OZ was actually any good (to this day he claims my set was shit that night but I swear I rocked it! Ha ha). But that kind of attitude was part and parcel of the old days, when stripes were earned, not just given because you had shitloads of Facebook or Instagram followers. That said, when I connected with him and Jay Cunning a little while later to play on their radio show I made sure to bring the hardest breaks I had! Ha! Fast forward a few odd years and Klaus emailed me saying he was moving to OZ. I was very excited about that as I knew more top quality producers is just what we needed at that point in time (hardly any DJ’s wrote their own music in those days). I’ve learnt so much watching Klaus work over the years and he’s always been very forthcoming with his knowledge, even though my OCD drove him insane over the years (of course, he told me so himself). And although it’s gone from benders to babies in the time that we’ve known each other, there are some things that never change. Who know’s what we’ll be dropping at our grandkids 21st’s! With that in mind, I’m pretty excited to be dropping this ‘previously only available on limited edition white label vinyl’ remix Klaus and I did of the Beastie Boys tune ‘Triple Trouble’ around 2004. Still sounds pretty phat if you ask me, especially with Klaus’s dope 2016 remaster! Enjoy! KK x

Triple Trouble (Kid Kenobi vs Klaus 'Heavyweight Hill' Remix - 2016 Remaster) - Beastie Boys (2004)

This was a remix I did with two of my closest mates, Tom Howell (aka Q45 / Diamond Lights / Yes Yes Records) and Lefroy Verghese (DJ Ritual). We finally made some time to get in the studio together and drink loads of red wine (hence the name). This was one of those records that just came together really easily. We were so stoked with the result and it was amazing to see this become a bit of a breakbeat anthem at the time. I’ll never forget dropping it at Field Day in Sydney and seeing a few thousand people sing along! It was always such a great track to end a set with, happy vibes!

I was a working DJ/producer 1996-2001 (UK). Lover of electronic music since 1990. I use this site to share some of my mix tapes and the best mixes from other DJs that I've accumulated over the years. This is purely for entertainment, sharing and promoting good music.
