This was the first mix after my two month trip through Japan. I came back armed with want lists and Japanese print edition of the Breakannica compilation (in which I am listed in the credits as Sugsan!) After 9-11, I put this tape out, it was the most well-recieved of all the mixes I had done. The Can track struck a cord in many ears, I kept it on the low until Z-Trip began playing it out regularly. It was sampled a few times in the 1990's, but I had never heard it at a break jam. All these early mixes were done on a Tascam 4-Track. I am only putting one side on, just to keep a connection with the folks who purchased the tape from myself as I DJ'ed at a Floor Projection, or dubbed a copy from a friend. Im not ignorant to the fact many of the cuts I unearthed are still rocked in circles today, however, I also realize I'm simply a conduit for the musical ideas and interpretations of others and I don't deserve much credit other than being the guy who decided to play these cuts some 30 years after they were laid to rest by most. The Tighten Up cut made me laugh when I heard it while doing this download. It seemed cool at the time. All cuts were original pressing vinyl of course. Shouts to Rim, Cut, Daddy Longleggs, Shoula (sp?), and Cut Chemist, who passed along knowledge directly or indirectly into this mix.


Vinyl Magic 2001 BBOY Breaks tape

This is the last tape- I went to CD's after. I HAD to be at the Flea Market every Saturday and Sunday. Everything was new and different, and I did my best to keep that knowledge private because of the sheer amount of work that went into unearthing these items. For example, this set is composed of records from here, Austin, El Paso, Salt Lake, Amarillo, and Oklahoma City. I hope you get a kick out of this one as I do, I spent a few hours on that 4-track intro which still sounds good to me. LOL! The Capoeira cut is a nod to the ancient martial art that foreshadowed b-boying. Shout to BBoy Marvel, who has been trying to teach me an Au Duple for years! One side only is included.
