You can tell I'm a huge Prefuse 73 and Flying Lotus fan......They have made some of the most glitchy, progressive, ecstacy, ill ass drum patterns, head bop music that I can think of in recent years......What I love about this kind of music is there's no preset or definition of sound or song structure yet all these artists definitely contain their own unique style........Songs like these have never existed before and you can't really confine them to genre......True pioneers and visionaries..........another compilation of tracks that take me there when I'm drivin around at night bumpin my subwoofer......

Not everyone's cup of tea, but when I make a mix, I try real hard to stay with the theme I'm goin with......Back in the early 90's, I used to record Jason D's "Wise Up" show 88.1 KZSC and started to notice he put these occasional dancehall-hip hop version songs here and there on his Saturday show......Back then, an artist named *Supercat* (90's version of Sean Paul) was f*ckin kill-ing IT!!!!! he couldn't be touched, his flow was incredible, and this mix is essentially a tribute to his influence on hip-hop culture.....Sean Paul did the same thing at the beginning of this century, but I haven't kept up with him for a bit, what's he up to??

From the positive response of this mix, I guess I should make a *Kingston-Brooklyn Bridge Part 2*......just give me some time, I got kids to feed, bills to pay, then I can play on the turntables......definitely seems like there is an interest in the Ragga steelo, I got some more goodies......thanks for the support everyone......

Electric Relaxation - Part 3

Mini-disc 4-track mix.....I was really happy to have found this machine in the newspaper ads and bought it off some random dude....you gotta remember, this is pre-craigslist days....

Turns out, it would cause occasional glitches and hiccups where part of the audio was messed up......Damn, this thing killed my workflow trying to correct broken parts.....

I intended to make at least an hour long mega-mix with this but never got back to it.....now that my Pro Tools skills are getting better, maybe I'll go back and redo and finish it in 24-bit baby....

Found this recording from a show me and Tahaj put on back in the early 2000's.....The highlight of the night was having *DJ Ta-shi* (Zulu Nation/Beat Knuckles) and *DJ Shortkut* (Invisibl Scratch Piklz/Beat Junkies/Triple Threat) comin through and rockin' it live on 4 turntables....I ran out of recording discs at the end which explains the abrupt cut off.....

As you can tell from the energy they're puttin down, they were f*cking rocking the place!!!.....people were going bonkers!!!  It was amazing to see their DJ communication and veteran skills in person....still inspires me to this day.....Enjoy...

     Sometime in the late 90's or 2000, I was having dinner with some friends at teabea's house...  Some funky ass music (funky, like james brown funky) was playing out of the stereo and I asked what it was.  She told me *Fela Kuti* and that's where I first heard his music.  

     Soon after in 2001, *Antibalas* came out with their first album "Liberation Afrobeat Vol. 1" on the record Label "Ninjatune" which was a label I was buying much of their catalog already...  I still remember how hyped I was with a clean recording from the LP and they came through Santa Cruz and f*cking rocked the place!!  Still one of the best shows I've ever seen...  I was hooked on this sound, vibe, and energy like many people...

     So from then on, I tried to find afrobeat/afrofunk records when I could (not expensive ones) and producers were sampling afrobeat rhythms, horn sections, and choppin' up Fela and makin' it BOOM!!  Hope you enjoy...
