Recorded live on Jan 28, 2023 at Dolly Disco in Vancouver.  This is the first time we've played an all night B2B together and it ended up being one of most fun times either of us have had DJing.  We played 6 hours from open to close. This recording captures the arch of energy throughout the night, the spontaneity of trading 3 for 3, the imperfections/perfections of a live set and connection between dance floor and DJ. Happy holidays. We're excited to present a special new mix from two members of the Bass Coast team.

@Sabota is a collaboration between Vancouver house and techno staple Max Ulis, and singer-songwriter Robbie Slade. 

Sabota is probably the most left-field thing in Robbie's catalogue of music, while it's certainly the most pop-sensible thing Max has been a part of. As the project has progressed, each has started exploring the other's role, that is, Max has been contributing to writing lyrics and song arrangement, while Robbie has been taking on more of a role in producing. This get/give flow of energy and non verbal communication is at the very heart of Sabota.

Had a very special time playing this set for everyone dancing at the Radio Stage at this year's Bass Coast Festival. The feeling there is truly un-matched, a window into the absolutely immense love and care that goes into the world surrounding music and the celebratory spirit within it. I'm beyond grateful to have received a two hour slot to connect with each and every one of you that were in attendance. Posting this mix for anyone that wishes to revisit that time we spent together and for those that are keen on giving it a fresh set of ears.

I don't even know what week of Quarantine it is anymore.  I have been dj'ing/live streaming/messing around a lot during this time.  It is great to get a break from everything and get back into what makes me the happiest, MUSIC. 

This mix is a tribute to the ‘Alte' sound that I love.  This is an emerging genre coming out of West Africa and is slowly spreading throughout the world.  Most people consider West African music to be afro-pop or afro-beat, and the majority of it is.  However, alternative West African music aka 'Alte' is that new new.
