Ladies and gentlemen, I give you ... Kris Krause. For me personally, Kris' DJ sets in 1994 changed my life. He was one of the first DJ’s in North Carolina playing this music in the early 1990’s. He and Jeff Nagel were an incredible duo. Jeff is also a great DJ and who Kris almost always shared the decks with. Kris played the first party I ever went to "Jenny's Jig II" in Jan 1994 at Kilroy's in Greensboro, NC. Kris’ set and music just totally blew me away. -(Dan’s tape collections contains a tape of Jenny’s Jig, which I’ll be posting soon) - I had been collecting "rave" CD's for years and made my first mix tape in 1991, but when I went to this underground party and heard real underground house/ techno, I was totally floored. It opened up a whole new world for me and even influenced what I did with the rest of my life, as I now work for a music technology company. This particular party was called "Warp" and was the first time I ate a can a beans (ya no what im sayin?) It was an incredible, life changing experience. Kris still plays and lives in Charlotte under the name Mr Atomic. Look him up. So here's a mix I did in 2012! Looking back I can tell this was a little love letter to the florida breaks sound that was so transformative to me both as a dancer and as a DJ. Of course it's through the ekb* filter but I think the fun I was having in miami as well as the undeniable energy there comes through in this mix. I hope you love it as much as I do, this one is a bit special to me. :)

To me the Plump DJs were at the forefront in the early Nuskool Breaks scene back in the 2000's, leading the way with new  innovative tunes and tight DJs mixes of some very underground music at that time. Lee Rous and Andy Gardner make up the duo that is the Plump DJs with over 20 years experience in the game and while the breaks musical style has changed over the years they are still touring and producing great music till this day.

This mix was made for Annie Nightingale and her BBC Radio 1 show called Annie On One back in 2005.

DJ Food looks back once again for our 25th Anniversary slot taking 'Free Comic Book Day' (this Saturday, May 4th) as his theme to present tracks that feature references to comic book characters. The Marvel and DC worlds of Superman, Batman and Spiderman feature heavily with everyone from Snoop Dogg to Cliff Richard revealing their passion for Caped Crusaders and Wall Crawlers. But the more obscure feature too with three nods to Judge Dredd, two for Flash Gordon and even Elton John singing the praises of Dan Dare. DJ Food will have a piece of artwork in a new exhibition called Image Duplicator - looking at the original comic artists that Lichtenstein copied for his most famous work - opening on May 16th at Orbital Comics in London.

BLIM (Boy Lost In Music) aka Gervase E. Cooke is a classically trained musician and was at the forefront of the early Nu Skool Breaks scene back in the late 1990's and early 2000's with his unique style that really pushed Nu SKool Breaks forward at the very beginning of the genre. He had quite a few releases on Rennie Pilgrem's label TCR along with other artists such as Chris Carter, General Midi, Elite Force and JDS to name a few. This mix was recorded for Annie Nightingale and her breakbeat show at the time known as Annie On One, One referring to the radio station BBC Radio 1.
