A wee 15-minute warmup journey for the GemFest application. Kept it clean, steady, and full of the high-energy rollers and euphoric touches that got me into DJing in the first place.

This one’s personal. It’s been a wild year, but getting back behind the decks brought everything right back to life.

After spending the weekend down south with the lads, bit of brotherhood, bit of a reset, and it reminded me why I started mixing all those years ago. The vibe, the warmth, that first-hour atmosphere when a night’s just about to take off.

So this mix is exactly that: a proper intro vibe.
Something you’d hear as the crowd’s drifting in, finding their feet, getting ready for the night ahead.

Not heavy, not mad just enough bass, enough uplift, and enough energy to set the tone.

Here is the promotional mashup from DJ Mark Charles, who has brought together a range of his favorite Drum and Bass genres into an hour mix, giving some examples of what to expect from the up and coming DJ from South West Scotland.

Mark Charles started DJing only a few years ago in a spare room in his house that was above one of the best local underground music venues in the small town of Dumfries.

Exposure to different styles and a multitude of local raw talent brought an idea to him in which he put together a small music room where local new and experienced DJs could come up and jam prior to playing events at the infamous underground venue The Troqueer Arms which was directly below his flat. The project was called #intheden with Mark Charles, which is still available to see on Facebook today.

He put his technical skills and financial investment from his local business into the underground music scene, which allowed him to enjoy helping others grow, while benefiting from learning along the way as they jammed in his house.

Today he focuses on Intrepid Radio, which broadcasts the only underground music constantly on intrepidradio.co.uk, and occasionally can be found on Pirate FM channels across the southern borders of Scotland.

After being hidden from events for a couple of years while he continued to learn and develop, the time is now to bring those new skills back to the event scene, with hopes of having the opportunity of playing at music festivals wherever the chance is presented.
