We’re proud to present the next instalment of the Dispatch Blueprints series from the legendary Ink & Gremlinz. Writing music together for almost 3 decades, they have pioneered their own take on drum and bass and so they make the perfect pairing to continue the Blueprints ethos, presenting their take on classic, old skool sounds with contemporary production techniques.

‘Juno Dawn’ is a tribute to the ‘atmospheric’ tracks heard at legendary clubs like ‘Speed’. It is a direct reference to Ink’s own ARX (Architecture Recordings) sound and style, a seven minute journey through the depths of these emotive and imaginative soundscapes.

In contrast ‘Faceless’ is a nod to the ’Horsemen’ sound that Ink & Gremlinz have been part of for many years – created originally by The 4 Horsemen (Ink, Loxy, Dylan and Keaton) this tough and rolling sound found home on labels like Renegade Hardware and Metalheadz – primarily focusing on b-boy break beats, with those deep tribal and tech elements that continue throughout, developing in a continual roll out.

Be Mine

To mark the pending release of my upcoming joint EP with Mineral (forthcoming on Omni Music on 28th August, here's my 'Helsinki to Hampshire') mix.  The mix includes all 4 tracks from the EP, alongside my forthcoming remixes of Synthforce and InTake for Default Recordings, a first play for my remix of Woken Balance's track 'Andromeda' (forthcoming on Metius Music), and my solo track Like Minds (Out now on the fantastic Sonic Landscapes compilation on EC Underground).

The first part of the mix focusses on cinematic dancefloor sounds / atmospheric and jungle, and then things switch towards a jazzier direction for a bit towards the end, including a sneak peek of a joint track with my Codename: Amen co-owner Rome.

Cinematic Jungle & 160 DJ/Producer/Remixer from the South Coast UK. Co-owner of Codename: Amen events.

DJing and crate digging since his teens, Moakz (Jon) was resident and promoter for the highly regarded Offshore & Toast events in Southampton during the mid-late 90's and early 00's, and was also an old-skool hardcore resident for Adrenalin during the same period, playing at numerous other events and free parties during this period. He subsequently co-produced and released several Nu-Skool Breaks tracks under the pseudonym Mobius on Ape Records, Dusted Breaks, VIM Records and Yellow Finger.

Moakz has recently returned, energised by the contemporary jungle and atmospheric sounds, with a new sound and several releases in quick succession which merge atmospheric elements with timeless breaks to deliver a mix of both epic dancefloor jungle and serene melodies. Soaring amens, space-age synths and rolling bass combine perfectly in his music and DJ sets which draw on both the classic and modern jungle and atmospheric sounds, from time to time drawing on elements of old-skool breakbeat Hardcore and more mature Liquid and Autonomic vibes.

2023 brings a succession of releases including the forthcoming 'Big Ideas EP' on Liquid Drops on 27th January, compilation tracks on Deep In The Jungle, One More Tune, and Eco Futurism Corporation, several remixes and further releases to be announced.

Moakz is a co-owner and resident of Codename: Amen, a Southampton-based event focussing on modern and classic Jungle, 160, Breakbeats, Hardcore and Atmospheric DnB / Jungle.

The year is 2077. AI is dominant in the world and has evolved to the point that it is able to grow hybrids of organisms and primitive technology, which are capable of creating stunning melodies and intricate drums and bass evoking memories of happier days in a bygone era.

Following on from ‘Hollow World EP’ is the third release on Codename: RCRDS, the new label from Southampton-based jungle, 160 and atmospheric crew Codename: Amen. The release and label channel the energy of the 90’s rave era, pushing the sound forward into exciting new directions for 2023. The ‘Drifting…’ series focusses specifically on more atmospheric / melodic tracks and presents a diverse international roster of artists residing in Finland, Sweden, the UK and Armenia.

Songs For A Drifting Rose opens with the stunning ‘We Look Back’ by Mineral, an evocative dreamy opener which builds gradually throughout towards a beautiful crescendo. Flipper joins the action on the second track with the haunting vocal number ‘Don’t Blame’ with subtle pads and arpeggios combining with a rumbling bassline and the understated vocals to create a stunning and unique track which works as well on both the dancefloor and at home.

Label co-owner Moakz contributes the understated roller ‘More Pressure’, contrasting rising strings and keys with everlasting looping vocals and rolling drums and bass locking you into the groove. The EP closes with the title track ‘Song For A Drifting Rose’ by the incredible Nothing, full of soulful sax and guitar licks, a perfect soundtrack to long summer nights and faraway lands.
