A major police operation is currently underway in Mannheim city center

According to the city's police headquarters, a car has driven into a group of people. One person was killed

The incident took place near Mannheim's pedestrian zone not far from the water tower

These are horrific images in the early afternoon after the crime here in Mannheim city center. Debris everywhere, people lying on the ground, some fighting for their lives

As things stand at the moment, a vehicle apparently crashed through the Planken, the main shopping street in Mannheim city center, at around 12:15 pm

Mannheim has given me so much in ten years, it's a small thing. Then I said I'd just let him go. I accelerated behind him, my windows were down and I honked the whole time, I honked the whole time.

The otherwise busy pedestrian zone is now completely cordoned off. There is debris on the street, a completely covered person can be seen

According to SWR information, which the police have so far neither confirmed nor denied, one person was killed.
