Canadian synth pop / post-punk band influenced by Kraftwerk.
Formed in Montreal, Quebec, Canada in1980 by Tracy Howe, former drummer for Montreal punk bands The Normals (later Heaven Seventeen) and synthesizer players Bill Vorn and Mario Spezza.

The latter was eventually replaced by Kevin Komoda, who in turn left the group in 1983, and was replaced by bassist Denis Duran. They reunited for a synth-pop festival in Sweden in 1997 and were officially revived by Tracy Howe in 1998 with Jean-Claude Cutz and Dave Rout, both ex-members of Digital Poodle, recording their comeback after fourteen years.

Kevin Komoda rejoined the band during 2012-2014, but the current line-up consists only of Tracy Howe and his wife Gaenor Howe.

Barış Manço died suddenly of a heart attack in 1999.

New Beat was a wave of electronic dance music specific to the Belgian club scene from around 1987 and into 1990, with its greatest popularity in 1988 and 1989. New Beat was often characterized by a relatively slow beat incorporating samples, synths and hypnotic bass lines. There's not a lot of "pure" New Beat music; it was always a fusion genre, constantly incorporating the sounds of other popular dance music of its era, including synth-pop, EBM/industrial dance, electro, house, acid house, and to a lesser extent, Detroit techno. New Beat had a significant, reciprocal influence on the stabby, buzzy "rave" aesthetic in techno music. Influences from New Beat evolved into the foundation of trance music (e.g. Age of Love's "The Age of Love" and Revelation's "First Power"/"Synth-It"). New Beat faded into history as its artists increasingly converted to making higher-tempo music more strongly associated with techno or trance. In between of New Beat and Belgium Techno around 1989 there was Hard Beat, also named Skizzo but mostly used is the term Hard Beat for that transition sound of 1988 New Beat to 1990 Belgium Techno sound. Oliver Mandić (Serbian Cyrillic: Оливер Мандић; born 13 July 1953 in Titovo Užice, Serbia, Yugoslavia) is a Serbian and Yugoslav rock musician, composer, and producer.

In 1980, Mandić released his debut album, entitled Probaj me (Try Me), produced by Peter MacTaggart. All the songs were composed by Mandić, and the lyrics were written by Marina Tucaković.[1] The album brought hits "Nije za nju" ("Not for Her"), "Samo nebo zna (Poludeću)" ("Sky Only Knows (I'll Go Crazy)") and rerecorded "Osloni se na mene". The album was promoted with a TV show Beograd noću (Belgrade at Night), directed by Stanko Crnobrnja. The ambitiously avantgarde programme even won Rose d'Or award at the 1981 Montreux TV festival. Mandić's controversial androgynous image in the show, was conceived by his school mate and good friend Slađana Milošević who, after many days and nights spent in endless persuasions and discussions, finally put Oliver in touch with conceptual artist Kosta Bunuševac who, she thought, would create the outwardly image for Oliver. This had raised quite a public furor due to the singer's cross-dressing and aggressive makeup. His androgynous image, which the Yugoslav audience found especially shocking in the early 1980s, attracted considerable media attention.

In 1982, Mandić released his second studio album, Zbog tebe bih tucao kamen (I Would Break Rocks for You). The album was recorded in Switzerland and produced by Mandić and MacTaggart.[3] It featured Nenad "Japanac" Stefanović on bass guitar, Điđi Jankelić on drums, Aleksandar Milovanović on guitar, Laza Ristovski on keyboards, Mića Marković on saxophone, Stjepko Gut on trumpet, and Bebi Dol on backing vocals, and the cover art was designed by Mirko Ilić.[3] The album brought hits "Smejem se, a plakao bih" ("I'm Laughing, but I Feel Like Crying"), "Neverne Bebe" ("Unfaithful Babies") and "Sve su seke jebene" ("All the Girls Have Been Fucked", with lyrics written after the motifs from Serbian erotic folk poetry collected by Vuk Stefanović Karadžić).

In 1984, Mandić appeared at the MESAM festival for the first time, performing the folk-inspired song "Pitaju me, pitaju" ("They're Asking Me, They're Asking"), for which the lyrics were written by Marina Tucaković. The same year Mandić produced Dʼ Boys album Muvanje (Hitting On).

In 1985, he released the album Dođe mi da vrisnem tvoje ime (I Feel like Screaming Your Name), which brought folk-inspired hits "Pomagajte drugovi" ("Help Me, My Friends"), with which he won the first place at the 1985 MESAM festival, and "Bobane" ("Oh, Boban..."). During the same year, Mandić took part in YU Rock Misija, Yugoslav contribution to Live Aid.

Trip hop (sometimes used synonymously with "downtempo" is a musical genre that originated in the early 1990s in the United Kingdom, especially Bristol. It has been described as "a fusion of hip hop and electronica until neither genre is recognizable", and may incorporate a variety of styles, including funk, dub, soul, psychedelia, R&B, and house, as well as other forms of electronic music. Trip hop can be highly experimental.

Trip Hop deriving from later idioms of acid house, the term was first used by the British music media to describe the more experimental variant of breakbeat emerging from the Bristol Sound scene in the early 1990s, which contained influences of soul, funk, and jazz. It was pioneered by acts like Massive Attack, Tricky, and Portishead. Trip hop achieved commercial success in the 1990s, and has been described as "Europe's alternative choice in the second half of the '90s."

Willie Graff splits his year between DJ residencies in New York and Ibiza (Pacha). In this second outing with studio partner Darren Eboli, the influence is, African, NY clubbing, World mixing Mediterranean and further afield. The duo finds its roots in the past, building a link between the soul of a song and the warmth of a melody then combining them with a contemporary sound.

The opener “All Is Bliss” sits at the pinnacle of the underground – A powerful, Balearic, disco influenced club track full of Spanish guitar, handclaps, club synths sounds like it was made for Dj Harvey’s “Mercury Rising” at Pikes in Ibiza.
“Ahimsa” is an outstanding track with funky breakbeat, weird Eastern samples, sneaking acid and Kraftwerk like arpeggios.
“La Sirena” is a balearic beach styled mid tempo chugger with chopped up breaks, deep sub-bass, Compass Point styled keys, whispering voices saying “Let Your Mind Be Free” .

If you are a Cafe Del Mar connoisseur and longing for that sunset moment “Bellatrix” does the trick featuring bits of Spanish Guitar, Flute, Oboe and floating warm pads creating that early 90ties vibe. Another winner from Willie and Darren - and hopefully an album soon
