“Through Space & Time” was written during the Depression chapter of “While They Were Sleeping,” and it belongs to the story of my mother a tribute to her love, her fire, and her place in the cosmos of who I am.

This is more than music. It’s memory turned celestial. A way to honor her when words fell short. The melody floats like starlight because that's how I remember her quiet strength, deep sorrow, a gravity I still orbit.

Even when we were oceans apart in silence, in misunderstanding she was still my home. This piece is for her. For everything she carried. For the light she gave me, even when she had so little left for herself.

“Through Space & Time” is the sound of missing someone who never truly left. It’s the sound of love, cosmic and complicated. And eternal.

The Vanishing Path II
marks the final step of the album Tides of Melancholy. Nine chapters of doubt, longing, and inner struggles lead to this very moment – the end of a long and burdensome journey. Sadness lingers in its melodies, with the piano opening like a distant memory of everything that has passed. Yet with every note, something greater unfolds: choirs, strings, and percussion transform melancholy into something majestic, almost comforting.

This finale is not only a farewell but also a promise. It reminds us that every path, no matter how difficult, eventually reaches its end – and within that end, peace can be found. For those caught in darkness and doubt, this track seeks to offer courage: the courage to keep moving forward, the courage to let go, and the courage to discover a quiet strength in transience.

The Vanishing Path II bildet den letzten Schritt des Albums Tides of Melancholy. Neun Stationen voller Zweifel, Sehnsucht und innerer Kämpfe führen zu diesem Moment – dem Ende eines langen, beschwerlichen Weges. Traurigkeit liegt in den Klängen, das Klavier eröffnet leise wie eine Erinnerung an alles Vergangene. Doch mit jedem Ton entfaltet sich etwas Größeres: Chöre, Streicher und Schlagwerk erheben die Melancholie in etwas Erhabenes, fast Tröstliches.

Dieses Finale ist nicht nur ein Abschied, sondern auch ein Versprechen. Es erinnert daran, dass jeder Weg, so schwer er auch sein mag, irgendwann sein Ende findet – und dass im Ende auch Frieden liegt. Für all jene, die in Dunkelheit und Zweifel gefangen sind, will dieser Track Mut sein: Mut, weiterzugehen, Mut, loszulassen und im Vergänglichen eine stille Stärke zu finden.

I happened to surf across an article about Richard Brautigan. I found the story mildly interesting. The article's author was writing about a recent biography that had come out about Brautigan.  The  picture he painted of the man did not seem flattering.  In fact, he made him sound like a real misogynistic, drunken asshole which I am sure he very well may have been.  However, what caught my eye in his write-up was a reference to Brautigan's book called "Trout Fishing in America".  

I recall chuckling at the way the article's author stated Brautigan used the phrase "trout fishing" or "trout stream" in ways that made the reader double-take. Some of the book's cultural popularity was misleadingly due to that title's use in the more conventional sense. However, Brautigan would personify the phrase "trout fishing" onto people or places or things throughout the book. This was un-conventional for the time and trippy to me. It created a sort of ear-worm of magic on me during my own song development process. It was a needed hit of hippie, beat generation, creative juice just in the nick of time. The trout stream which had been simmering for close to a year was dusted off, revised and finally completed.  

This song may be about my ongoing discontent with the state of our world. It may be about my deep conviction that we can and will do better. It may be about my general state of happiness despite the world we live in. It may be about trout fishing in America.  

Thank You for sharing a moment with me. I appreciate your friendship as I continue to cobble my musical creations together one trout fish at a time.
