These 5 tracks are straight from the heart, inspired by my time living here in NYC - particularly the time I’ve spent dancing and walking here, sometimes with no destination in mind.

I think of all the mornings I’ve spent watching the sun come up in a room of sweat, haze and a sea of people fully succumbing to the low end rumble of a good beat playing on club speakers, knowing that this has happened year round for past 50+ years, particularly here in NYC. And also the evenings around dusk where everyone is taking the train, simultaneously tired and unhinged, moving to the rhythm of the city's machinery. And in the summers when the hydrants have been loosened and the music is blasting on every block to soundtrack the feral energy pouring out. And the slow fall into winter depression, the creative season for music producers like myself to reflect and make new music such as this.

Devotion captures the feeling of surrendering to this city, but not as a means to escape, but as full immersion in a moment that will only happen once and simultaneously feels timeless.

We are proud to present to you our newest release : MONSTART VOL.5 [MNSTRT013] 

Including 10 original club music tracks by talented producers from all around the world. What is the club ? What are feelings inside ? We tried to think what club music will be in 2017, each track represents a particular feeling made, a certain attitude and atmosphere, but it boils down to one thing, the tracks are made to dance and nothing else. Simple. 

" Montpellier and Paris-based clubnight and label Monstart follow up from a stellar 2016 crammed full of eclectic releases, parties and Rinse France shows with their 5th compilation to date. Headed up by one of France’s finest DJs, Ouanounou and visionary dancer Chatte Chatoyante, “Monstart Vol. 5” is a love letter to the club and the physical experiences it can offer. Having cut their teeth as promoters before forming the label, there’s a performative element to everything they put out which makes it hard not to bust a groove when you hear a Monstart track. As Ouanounou notes, ‘Dance and music must be associated for us, we can’t even imagine a party without more than just DJs performing.’ 

Building on their vision of an international club sound that represents artists from all around the world, the release features artists from Lithuania, Zambia, Germany, Russia, USA, Denmark and, of course, France. Whilst compilations of Night Slugs-esque club tracks from multiple nationalities has become a stereotyped calling card for small labels like Monstart, what makes this album stand apart from the sea of ‘club-comps’ is how much freedom the producers are given to explore their own sound and identity; pushing the genre to it’s limits. Each track represents a particular feeling, a certain attitude or atmosphere but always it boils down to one focal point; these tracks are made to make you dance and sweat. 

Ryan Wick kicks off the release with “U & I,” which deftly marries percussive UK funky drumbeats with breathy vocal samples. Elsewhere on the release Paradoxe Club’s De Grandi creates an afrobeat-inspired synth workout on “Global” and Hyperboid’s Fisky delivers a trippy house track crammed full of endlessly stuttering delay effects on “Rontonda.” Hexagon Dub’s Sheik rounds things off with Vera, showcasing his unmistakably British ear for an ominous bassline and unexpected counterpoints throughout. 

For the Monstart founders, ‘a world must be created within music to give people a unique and new experience to remember.’ This compilation fully realizes this desire to highlight dance music’s spatial and atmospheric elements. Turn it up loud and dive into the Monstart world. "

James Bangura - LET'S GO

DJ Plead delivers a unique set of deep and frenetic dance floor tools for his DECISIONS debut. Sumptuous percussion drawn from Plead’s Lebanese background is masterfully arranged to propel the listener into deeply mesmeric rhythmic zones. Equally hypnotic are the vocal and synth loops gleefully entwined throughout the EP, with vibes ranging from slinkily tense (DVE; Get In Circle) to exuberant (Giz) to downright dubby (Lee’s Shuffle). The EP title simultaneously references dancing circles at Lebanese weddings and the anthemic samples of footwork producers such as DJ Roc. Get In Circle is the first EP length release from Melbourne’s DJ Plead, who has been hiding in plain sight as one third of BV and half of Poison. Play loud; get in circle.
