A longtime lover of Brasilian sounds, this 8 song double 12” compiles reworks he created over nearly a decade, drawing from some of his most revered and respected sources. From the upfront boogie of “Relaxa,” to the stomping “Babaluae,” the tropical funk of “Rainha do Mar,” the downtempo sway of “Era Um Era,” to the almost balearic-leaning “Dotô” and more, this mini-album contains a wide swath of Brasilian styles and flavors.

Reimagining the track 'Chupa Cabra' as a devilishly pulsating and funky burner, FOUK showcase the distinct style that's made them synonymous with the more soulful, disco-infused side of contemporary dance music.  Pure dancefloor bliss on this one!

Rocksteady Disco is extremely excited to release this multi-faceted EP from one of American dance music’s most prolific musical minds: JKriv. First up, is “Aguaxirê”— a deep Afro-Brazilian house cut in praise of the Yoruban orisha Oya. Full of moody Detroit-style pads, driving percussion, acid basslines, live trumpet (performed by Escort mainstay Nathan Warner), and an expertly plucked sample, this 9 minute odyssey is crafted for ecstatic dance floor use. Moving to the B side, we hear J rework the música popular brasileira classic “Ive Brussel” into a pool-side day party anthem, complete with a full overdub of the bassline by J with his Fender Jazz bass. Following that is a traditional deejay edit of “Deep Cove View”, a breezy and chilled out Brazilian jazz fusion cut with plenty of piano, slap bass, and vocal scatting. J flexes his production, performance, and arrangement prowess here, delivering 3 tracks ready for the party, the after hours, or the after-after hours.

As a DJ, (and enthusiast of the bass guitar) my dream is to share with people the legacy of Funk and Soul and keep the memory of the 70s 80s alive.  I want to especially introduce the younger generation to this amazing music style and my dream is that they embrace it. Youngsters are used to current music trends that neither excite or inspire them........but if they get to know and love Funk and Soul, I envision a transformation and a new awareness of music they will respect and enjoy.  There are so many styles of music like Funk, Soul, Jazz, Blues, Rock, Disco, Fusion, Afro, Motown, the list goes on ....all of which feature in my DJ set.  I have created a charitable foundation and my work as a DJ sponsors this initiative to keep the art form alive, by financing and organizing conferences, associations and support of music academy schools.  Any donations will be used to enlighten a whole new generation about art & music. 

Now it is my pleasure to select for you, some of the best music from the Funk and Soul era and other genres: Jazz, Blues, Rock, Disco, Fusion, Boogie, Afro, Latin, Motown, Reggae, Nu Jazz, Jazz Funk and Rare Grooves.  
Its sometimes hard to know what is Funk, as there is a lot of crossover between Funk, Soul, Disco, Jazz, Blues and Rock but now, from my heart and soul, I am giving you.....undiluted examples of steaming hot Funk!
