The restriction of vision: ‘Eyes Are Blind’. Ushered in by a deliberate beat clash, a solid but warm bass drum underlies the narrative. It entices a quickly enveloping synth which drags for the first two beats and juts for the last. An understated sequence emerges from an undergrowth of dissembled whispers, before a 2-step snare skips to the end. Vision is restricted, but purpose is not lost.
Intense study: 'Look Deep'. The track begins incessant and out of focus; a hi-hat dominates, distracting. But then comes a mendacious marching band, playing on, on, and on. And you can do nothing but adhere to its tune, following its pattern, helplessly.
Coming to: 'Awake Track'. From the deep resonance of the marching band comes light. Wooden taps, clicking snares, melodic bass. Percussion is airy. And despite a dark menace still underscoring the flow this is an emergence back into clarity.
Eyes Are Blind is a narrative on sight, moving from the submerged to the clear. But as much as it's a record about seeing, you have to listen carefully. After all, you don't want to miss anything.

It is Monday the 3rd of February 2014 and we have DJ Red for the first time on the CLR Podcast. Born and raised in Rome, Italy, Simona Calvani p.k.a. DJ Red has been a resident for the Ultrabeat nights at Rome´s most important dance venue Goa club for the last 13 years. In 2012 she joined the BPitch Control artist roster and released her first record “Eyes Are Blind” on the BPitch Control label. Her mantra “creation is the source of energy” underpins the importance of the relationship between artist and public. Her innovative DJ style is characterized by Techno-Dub influences, dark and deep sounds. This mix is radically different from what I usually play, it's an insight to other aspects of my music style. Given the present situation o lockdown, I have decided to record a downtempo, ambient electronic mix. I believe this fits perfectly the current mood. In truth I originally created the mix as a personal journey, something that I don't do very often.
I have now decided to share it with you.
