Many people in Ottawa have reported seeing the bioluminescent bugs flying 
around their urban gardens or at the soccer field.

"We're seeing pretty good numbers this year and then also surprisingly even in urbanized areas … we are getting a lot of reports of more fireflies than have been out recently," said Marc Branham, a professor at the University of Florida who has studied fireflies for more than 20 years.

He said this year's wet spring contributed to an increase in the number of fireflies. In 2017, Ottawa had the wettest May and July on record.

According to Branham, the firefly larvae feed on slugs, snails and earthworms — and those creatures are in abundance when the weather is wetter.

"It's a real phenomenon and these spectacular firefly displays which are out this spring and summer are probably correlated with [the] wetter year."

This song is an ironical (but not ridiculous) description of life in the Corona-crisis. The text was written in the last decade of March 2020. Thus it is already a bit outdated.  But everybody will recognise many aspects which I mention in my singing.

Here is the German text:

Corona-Virus

Corona sei doch sehr gefährlich
und das Virus sei ja sehr begehrlich. - Oh yeah!
Muss ich nun zu Hause bleiben
oder darf ich noch Klausuren schreiben?
Hab´ ich noch genügend Desinfektionsmittel im Haus,
und reicht das Klopapier noch aus?

Auch das Händewaschen darf man nicht vergessen, (no no no no no!)
und reichen noch meine Vorräte an Essen?
Meine Osterreise wurde bereits storniert.
und die Aktien sind weltweit total abgeschmiert (oh je!).

So was haben wir ja noch nie erlebt,
eine Pandemie, wie sie im Buche steht.
Fussball kommt nur noch im Radio und TV,
ins Theater oder Konzert ging ich ja sowieso noch nie!

14 Tage halte ich zu Hause aus,
aber dann ist Schluss, dann muss ich wieder raus.
Einmal in der Woche muss ich Lebensmittel kaufen,
außerdem brauche ich noch was zum Saufen.

Doch ohne Mundschutz fühle ich mich nicht sehr prächtig,
klingt das Husten meines Vordermannes doch extrem verdächtig, extrem verdächtig!

So was haben wir ja noch nie erlebt,
eine Pandemie, wie sie im Buche steht.
Fussball kommt nur noch im Radio und TV,
ins Theater oder Konzert ging ich ja sowieso noch nie!

Kinder und Studenten müssen demnächst nicht mehr leiden,
denn sie können bald zu Hause bleiben.
Doch für viele Eltern ist das ein Problem,
denn sie können dann nicht mehr zur Arbeit gehen.

70 Prozent der Bürger werden angeblich bald infiziert,
hoffentlich haben die Sparmaßnahmen der Politiker die Intensivbetten nicht allzu sehr dezimiert.
Deutschlands Grenzen bleiben aber völlig offen,
denn Frau Merkel möchte sich nur ungern mit der Wirtschaft zoffen.

So was haben wir ja noch nie erlebt,
eine Pandemie, wie sie im Buche steht.
Fussball kommt nur noch im Radio und TV,
ins Theater oder Konzert ging ich ja sowieso noch nie!

Und wer ist Schuld an diesem ganzen Virus-Mist,
das ist der Chinese, der auf Tiermärkten lebende Wildtiere ausstellt,
diese dann tötet und dann isst,
oder sogar gemahlen als Potenzmittel frisst.

Kaum habe ich eine Strophe aufgenommen,
sind alle Fakten schon wieder zerronnen.
Nun sind alle Grenzen doch schon dicht,
und Spielplätze zu meiden ist jetzt Pflicht.

Greta Thunberg hatte zwar Panik angemahnt,
doch so wie das jetzt ist, so war das nicht geplant.
Das Klima wird jetzt zwar geschont,
doch die neue schlechte Lebensqualität ist echt ungewohnt.
Auf allen Sendern kommen Sonderberichte,
dieses Scheiß-Virus schreibt echt Geschichte.

Ob wir alle überleben ist nicht klar,
das ist doch alles hoffentlich nicht wirklich wahr.
Doch CureVac (*) wird hoffentlich bald einen Impfstoff für uns haben,
dann brauchen wir nicht völlig zu verzagen.

In China haben sie die erste Seuchenwelle bereits überwunden,
doch in Deutschland werden die armen Bürger noch wirklich arg geschunden.
Das Einkaufen in Berlin ist fast wie russisches Roulette,
und auch die wenigen schlanken Deutschen werden ohne Sport bald ganz schön fett.
Nun hilft angeblich nur noch die Methode „Hammer und Tanz (**)“,
was ist denn das nun schon wieder, ticken die denn noch ganz?

(**) Das ist ein Szenario in einer internen Studie des Innenministeriums, bei der nach einer
Holzhammer-Phase (Ausgangssperren etc.) nach ca. 6 Wochen wieder weitgehend zur Normalität zurückgekehrt werden kann und die Infektion durch intensives Testen und Nachverfolgung von Kontakten kontrolliert wird.
