John Paynter - #liveforlove (Live Streaming For UK Food Banks) Mix - 16.04.20

Amsterdam-based DJ Hary Shanthi describes himself as a metaphysial educator; his music is a personal story based on his own experiences.

As well as being part of the Sinchi Collective crew - a blog, label and mix series who represent some of the most exciting underground artists - when Hary isn't completely immersed in music, he works as a climate researcher and scientist in the fields of climate mitigation, zero carbon technologies and energy transition.

We invited him to take control of this week's Wednesday Alternative mix and boy did he deliver! Based around the idea of "if “Nietzsche” was a DJ" channelling his musical four part text “Thus spoke Zarathustra“, Hary uses only tracks composed in minor: the first part harmonic, the second with the use of scales under the Dorian mode, the third using Phrygian mode and the final part utilising the natural/aeolian mode.

Hary Shanthi: The 'Wednesday Alternative' Mix

Happy to have Phred Noir on the Play Pal Series with a very personal two hour mix he's recorded for the occasion.

He's been behind one of the finest labels we know, La Dame Noir Records, for the last 10 years, being co-founder of it alongside Relatif Yann, and also of La Dame Noir Bar & Club.

They've counted with many great artists through out these years, both on the label and at the club, where he's had the opportunity of sharing decks with Maceo Plex, Pachanga Boys, Chloé, Andrew Weatherall, Ivan Smagghe or Michael Mayer just to name a few.

He's been playing for more than two decades and as he defines it himself, from Balearic Disco to Slow Techno via Dark Disco, from the seaside to the latest dance floor, between 100 & 120 bpm, being 110 where he enjoys the most.

As a producer, he's teamed up with Amevicious under the alias 'La Dame Noir' releasing music on Meant, Factor City or Blindetonation and also with Remain from Meant Rec. under the aka 'Slow Porn' with releases on My Favourite Robot and La Dame Noir.

Este es el noveno Lapsos y esta vez estará a cargo de Alvaro Cabana (Rotten City / Madrid) aquí puedes leer la entrevista que le hicimos:


1-. ¿Cual es el principal criterio que sigues a la hora de seleccionar música para el sello que diriges, Rotten City?

Básicamente música que me lleve a algún lugar, me emocione y de alguna manera me resulte excitante,  independientemente del estilo , velocidad y procedencia.  
Siempre intentando mantener un equilibrio entre el material más enfocado a la pista de baile y el lado más artístico o personal para así  poder trazar un espacio donde huir de lo más genérico.
He de confesar que no puedo evitar tener ciertas influencias y preferencias por sonidos exóticos, psicodélicos, cósmicos, discoides, o new wave / post punk. Supongo que esto de algún modo se acaba reflejando en las referencias del sello, sin embargo, al final siempre acabo dejándome llevar por lo que me llame de alguna manera la atención sin necesidad de intelectualizar demasiado. Prefiero quedarme con lo que siento a primera escucha. Aunque a priori haya cosas que  parezca que no esté entre mis preferencias musicales, puede ser que conecte de inmediato con ellas.

2-. En que estás trabajando actualmente, qué planes tienes a futuro?

Varios remixes. Más adelante saldrá un EP en Roam y otro en Pets Recordings

3-. ¿Algo curado que te haya pasado tocando?

Me viene a la mente  Yaga festival 2018, en el que estaba programado para pinchar dos horas cerrando el escenario principal y acabé haciendo más de 5.

4-. Nombra tus artistas favoritos actualmente o Qué artistas han sido clave en tu inspiración para hacer música electrónica o ¿Algún artista que no conocemos aún, pero deberíamos de prestar más atención?

Actualmente y desde hace unos años ya, Manfredas, Golden Bug, Toulouse Low Trax, River Yarra, John Talabot, Fango o  Prins Thomas. Del pasado,  IDM de los 90s, bandas como Primus o Coil. También DJs como Trevor Jackson, Andrew Weatherall han sido una constante inspiración. Dave P es otro de mis favoritos actualmente.

Recomendaría no perder la pista a los productores españoles afincados en Madrid Jai y Lebollet y a Iro Aka de Barcelona.

Venezuelan by birth, considered to be one of the pioneers of dance movement in Venezuela since 1996, Rey Morales has shared the stage with artists such as Lee Burridge, Gean Farris, Circulation, Felix The Housecat, among others, and was the special guest for Venezuela at Ministry Of Sound Caracas with DJ Lottie. His sessions have taken him to Bogotá, Cartagena, Lima, Sao Paulo, London, Barcelona and Madrid. In 2013 he excelled as official DJ for Ray-Ban in Venezuela. Based in Madrid since 2014, he has played at Sala Sol, Goya Social Club, Ballesta, Studio 76, Taboo, After Brunch and Friday’s resident DJ at Phoenix Bar and Switch: Phoenix The Club at Cafe Berlin once a month. In 2020, he launched 110 M.e.a.L. (Música electronica de absorción lenta): A Slow Dark Disco party in Madrid that can’t go up to 110 BPM.

A night drive in a city full of lights, a slow, hypnotic and powerful beat coming from a smoky club. This is the sound of Amarcord, a young musician, DJ and Live Performer also active in the experimental circuit. His music shows a profound love for both the Krautrock and New Wave sounds of the 70’s, re-imagined from the eye of the modern waves of electronic and dance music. 
Amarcord’s productions have been appreciated and supported by some of the most influential taste-makers in the underground club scene, from legends like Andrew Weatherall and Laurent Garnier to to the new generation acts and he had the opportunity to play in some of the most important venues across Europe and beyond.
After some well received releases on influential labels as Ombra International (in which he features regularly), Correspondant, ROAM and AEON, Amarcord is currently working on his first Album while a new EP on Me Me Me Records will see the light of day before the end of the year. Animated by an unstoppable need for music making and passion this young artist is just at the beginning of his exploration into a personal and ever stimulating sonic world.
