Most ppl know me from DJing in Ohio & Chicago but before I moved to Ohio I lived in Atlanta from 89-98. I grew up in the predominantly black suburb of Ellenwood, GA and went to Chapel Hill Elementary. I was wayyy too young for Freaknik but you didn’t have to be at Freakink to hear the sounds of Miami Bass, Atlanta Club Music, & Southern Rap.

You could hear these songs at the roller rink, birthday parties, family gatherings on the radio at football games boomin outta cars… I’m sayin bass music was everywhere in the 90s.

Every kid at every party innately knew how to do all the dances, from the Bankhead bounce to the butterfly to the tootsee roll and we could do it all on 4 wheels at the rink.

What a time to be alive! Atlanta in the 90s was a gah damn vibe, you just had to be there.

I could go on all day with the stories like how Tag Team tried to steal the glo of “Whoot the there it is” from 95 South or how The Producers from 95 South left and became the 69 Boyz. I love this era of Atlanta music so much but it is some what over looked when talking about 90s dance music for New Yorks Golden Era of Hip Hop. NY has hip hop, Chicago has House, Miami got bass, but Atlanta had that Bounce! That’s why this genre is unofficially labeled Atlanta Bounce.

Known for weaving together a meditative range of Vogue, Breaks, Footwork, Rap, Juke, Global Club, Gqom, and Techno, Nishévitha invites listeners to experience the dance floor as a resistant space for reform, transcendence, and healing.

As Co-founder of Club Hysteria, a NJ-based collective spotlighting global club sounds, they’ve curated vibrant events across the region, cementing their role as a tastemaker in the NYC/NJ scene. Their storytelling extends globally through a monthly residency on Voices Radio (London) with Jaggery Radio—a show initially rooted in South Indian identity that has since evolved to celebrate Queer, Femme, and BIPOC artists from across the diaspora.
