This mix is part of a collection to celebtrate my thirty years of DJ'ing  which started officially in 1991 but in honour of my raving days I have started the collection with "My Raving Years"

It's 5PM Friday 30th Of October 1988  I was 18 years old and  would rush home from my local office junior job in suburbia to get ready for one of the best nights in Essex England on a Friday for Acid House /New Beat Music. The tunes were so diverse, anything from Pop to Rock, strangest thing ever when a tune gets thrown in randomly after jumping about to a Hip Hop tune or possibly a 70's Synth Pop tune :) The crowd was absolutely amazing and so friendly with the majority of people on exctasy although I wasn't at the time I truly felt the vibe and wanted to be part of the movement.

SKIE- Berwick Manor Memories 1988-“My Raving Years” :)

The second mix of my 30 Years Of Skie +My Raving Years.

It was the end of May 1989,  I was living in  Chesterfield Derbyshire as my parents had moved there due to the house price boom in the south east. The rave scene was  virtually non existent locally so I travelled down to see someone in London, however, they cancelled last minute.  I called my brother Joe up who was a ticket agent for all of the big illegal raves and asked him what was happening that weekend- he told me there was an Energy Rave in a Film studio in Shepherds Bush West London, he offered me a ticket which was left left on the door at the event.  My friend Mia and myself turned up to a big closed gated area with crowds of people and security Guards, it was quite intimidating at first but we could not wait to find out what was on the other side,

When we finally got in it was the most amazing setting I had ever seen with a big temple erected  in the middle of the dance floor. There were bumper cars and arcades with ravers  everywhere and everyone was so friendly unlike local club nights with the usual drunk people getting dressed up and causing fights, it was different, this was very different, the clothes were colourful and baggy with floppy hats, baseball caps, African dress, psychedelic t shirts, flowery tops, it was like a secret  world within a world where everyone just danced together regardless of their ethnicity, class or religion. Football hooligans had become hippies :) The music was underground too, stuff you were unlikely to hear at mainstream clubs. It felt magical like a new step in to the future, a perfect fresh new musical Utopia.

It truly was like a secret Movement...

SKIE-1989  SECOND SUMMER OF LOVE <3 MY RAVING YEARS PART 2***VINYL***

It's the 3rd of June, 1989, a glorious hot summers evening and after last weeks Energy 1, I'm ready to rave! We fill up with fuel at The Esso Purfleet and my brother asks me if I would like to Induldge in a Cali, I asked how it would affect me, he laughed and said I'd love it so I agreed. We arrived in Bromley (kent) and I can remember looking at the houses and streets, they looked beautiful and the lights were twinkling, I remember saying to my brother and his girlfriend  " I really love Bromley" (laughs)

We parked up nearby and walked to the airfield as the party was in a massive hangar. I can remember queing and hearing Rengade Soundwave Phantom pounding through the walls of the hangar. We got inside and there were tyres all around the  edge for people to sit. I can remember being outside and sitting talking to these guys who were hanging around outside the Amusement arcade, they looked a bit shady, a week or so previously I had seen a documenary on rent boys, so I rudely asked the guys if they were rent boys, they laughed so hard ( on reflection I guess the Cali made me say stupid stuff ):/ anyway at the next rave (Sunrise White Waltham) they spotted me and we had a laugh about it and a big hug :))

SKIE - 1989 MY RAVING YEARS PART 3***VINYL SET***

I moved in with my brother and his girlfriend after travel from Debyshire become too much  for me, in return for my bed and board I hoovered the house and sold the tickets for the raves for my brother, in return I also got a free ticket ;)

We organised a coach to take people to White Waltham airfield Bucks ( near Maidenhead) it picked everyone up from Elm Park outside a church called St Albans.  Half of the coach was filled with people I grew up with in the 70's & 80's-on our little journey in to something new and fresh!

We headed around the M25 clueless as to where we were heading but the driver had instructions that my brother had received from a call on the landline from the promoters, we eventually got to the A404 heading to Maidenhead and turned off, I can remember seeing someone in a high vis waving and directing us in to a lane where we could hear the thump of the beat getting closer. Our coach eventually came to a stop and we all 'piled' out like excitable children (bearing in mind we were between 16-30 years old) I remember there was a video camera filming us which was the officlal video for the night.

We had to queue for a bit and I can remember feeling the pounding of the tune "Phantom" by Renegade Soundwave smashing through the side of warehouse as I came up on what was apparently a ‘yellow Cali’

We got inside and litterally ran  to the middle of the warehouse/hangar with excitement, there were already a few thousand people dancing up on the dance platforms below what seemed to be a huge inflatable hanging ball.

I remember offering to get everyone in my small group of friends a drink and I disappeared off in to the middle of the smoke filled hangar, Li'l Lous French Kiss was playing ...as I walked I could feel everything becoming more and more intense until what seemed like a sheet of honeycomb pattens covered my vision in the formation of dry ice and strobe; the next thing I knew I was sitting on the floor in a recovery position with my nose running with the reassuring scent of the Bodyshop's Dewberry lingering close by....I got up continued to get some drinks and some peices of Honey Melon for my friends & returned, apparently I had been gone over an hour :/

The next morning the sun came up and everyone went outside and was dancing around the parked cars, we jumped on our coach and retuned to Essex at around 9AM,  on the way home we stopped for refreshments in a little village shop, our coach pulled up to the side of the road and out about forty ravers dressed in typical 1989 rave clobber decended in to the shop; we bought all of their Lucozade and Strawberry Ribena stock ( I can still remember the shock on the shop keepers shocked face) and we all headed back to Elm Park Essex.

A truly unforgettable weekend that'll stay with me forever.

SKIE - 1989 MY RAVING YEARS PART 4-WHITE WALTHAM ***VINYL SET***:)

August 1989, the long awaited rave had come, The big Sunrise & Back To The Future Festival. Our ticket sales had gone through the roof for this one as Sunrise had proved to be one the best large scale raves in 1989; we literally had people queing out of the front door with ravers from all over Essex wanting tickets.

I chilled in the afternoon with my chicken & Mushroom pot noodle’s ( my staple diet in 1989) and had my hair highlighted ready for the event...only trouble was my hair started smoking because we put tin foil on it and I decided to sit in the garden with the sun blazing down on it; consequently after it was rinsed off, my hair went yellow :/

I had bought a lovely lilac paisley baggy top which matched my purple and green converse Chuck Taylor’s and I was ready for the night ahead!

We all 'piled' in to my brother Joe's hire car straight on to the M25 Thurrock and headed towards the M40 with a mixtape blasting out of the little white F reg Fiesta( which was brand new at the time)

When we reached the junction around midnight and turned off we were waved in by a pilot ( that was what they called the guides) My sister in law and I started to get excited as we could hear the thumping bass kick, we saw the lazers across the sky with a haze and at that moment we parked the car and ran towards the music through the parked cars in the field,...

Down the hatch :)

As we entered we noticed the huge stage in preparation for the rave acts of the night. There was a huge bouncy castle with ravers all over it. There were literally thousands and thousands of like minded ravers in this huge farmers field, all attending this secret special movement, we thought we could change the world, lol....I guess we kind of did.

I remember seeing Doug Lazy PA on stage, it was mind blowing this Hip-House rapper all the way from USA coming to peform live to us English kids of all classes and creeds. I remember the sun was coming up and we were just jumping about to him <3 proper legend.

I remember seeing and sitting with a few famous people at the time including most of the cast of Grange Hill mid 80's and The Wee Papa Girl rappers. I bumped in to a girl I hadn't seen since secondary school in the early 80's from East London just randomly.  I have to say I was absolutely buzzing! Me and my mate Mark Shimmon decided to link arms and literally skip across the whole field with the sun coming up buzzing and if you haven't done that after a good E, you're missing out lol.

Midday came and it was time to leave, everyone was pretty wired by then- my brother asked if I could drive back to Grays as he was mashed ….Thanks Joe :>

BITCHIN’ BREAKS PART 1 ‘21- 30 YEARS OF SKIE 2021

This mix-The end of this year 1989, as the police were coming down hard on the promoters and ravers and the Autumn/ winter started to set in it became harder to put illegal raves on as the police intelligence had grown and the conservative party did not want the promoters to get any financial gain tax free, Margaret Thatcher and her team had started to bring in laws to stop these events.  My brother Joe invested in a rave to be held in a warehouse in Brixton called Magicke ( flyer on mix picture) designed by an artist in Faversham in Kent, sadly the venue was rumbled by the police that evening and shut down before we could even start, we spent that night in a small south London ‘boozer’ necking Brandy’s.

  NYE 1989 Sunrise had organised a rave but this did not happen, alternatively we all were tipped off to head to slough for a Biology Rave at a Panasonic 
warehouse. We headed there and was found at the bottom of a lorry bay where people were being lifted up to get in to the rave, It was freezing cold that night, the ice was really bad.

The tune of the night NYE 1989 has to be Orbital "Chime", it was an amazing tune to wave goodbye to one of the best years ever, however,  I could feel that night that what we had was coming to an end, The vibe was different, there were fights and arguments, bad people had started to attend the raves and pressure was on due to the Government and Police clamping down. The music had changed also, it was heading in a more darker, meloncoly sound, not something that would make you smile and throw your hands up.

The next morning I headed out in the freezing cold in my red duffle coat back to the car actually looking forward to getting home and sitting around the gas fire.

1990 was upon us.

After living with my brother and his wife at their house in Grays Essex I found myself and them abrubtly having to leave due to the Police possibly making an attendance.  We packed up and headed to East London as quickly as we could.

We ended up sleeping on the carpeted floor of my brothers friend Warren's flat in a tower block in Plaistow East London. We would wake up with Warren absolutely wired on Coke hoovering around our heads at 06:00AM, we knew he wasn't happy with us being there lol.

The music and scene took quite a turn, The illegal raves were very scarce by the first few months of 1990 due to new laws.  Undesirable people started to sell dodgy drugs therefore the happy, loving vibe seemed to be dispapearring, consequently the music moved in to a more darker/melancoly sound.  

We wasn't at Warrens long before we found a basement flat in Plaistow to 'hide out' in. We used to listen to Fantasy FM, it was pretty much on the radio 24/7 where we experienced the birth of the bleep :)

SKIE -1990 WARREN'S PLAISTOW FLAT MIX-30 YEARS OF SKIE****VINYL****

After Warren hoovering around our heads at 6AM every morning we knew we had to leave his flat; my brother found a one bedroom basement flat on the quick, Myself, our friend Dal and my brother and his wife all crashed there, Dal on the sofa and myself on a rug on the floor. The place was full of mould and mildew and was visited by Woodlice on the regular, Dal’s English Bull Terrier Amos used to try to eat them.

One morning I remember heading to the local Iceland store with a spring in my step, I felt so good and was chatting to everyone in the store and everywhere else throughout the day. I proceeded to the bank where I chatted with the bank manager constantly about complete and utter shite.

It wasn't until I got home that evening I was climbing the walls, Dal started lauging and my brother admitted he had spiked my morning tea with speed, it all made sense after that!!

I can remember waking up suddenly one morning to the door being crashed in and three men running in with crowbars, my brothers friend Dal was sound asleep in a sleeping bag on the sofa, one of the guys started attacking him whilst he was still in curled up in his sleeping bag, Dal came around from his sleep and managed to fight him off albeit half asleep...it was shortly  after that we decided to move again!! Next stop was Customhouse.

The rave scene was still pretty quiet due to the new laws, but we were ready to head to Trafalgar Square for the Freedom To Party March, not really sure what we thought we would change but it was fun being part of it,

SKIE-1990 BARKING RD  BASEMENT BLEEPS-30 YEARS OF SKIE***VINYL***

March 1990 came. Word had got around there would be a march/rally against the Conservative Party's decision to ban our raves, they proposed The Criminal Justice Bill and were inforcing it, this meant that everything we had ever know was about to be gone.

We caught the tube up from Plaistow and met with our friends and heading down to Trafalgar Square. 

I have never seen so many people there, it was amazing, all young people of all colours and creeds were there, I can remember looking across a rainy sky at all the ravers wearing all brightly coloured clothing.

I can remember the singer Debbie Malone started to sing on a stage which had been erected, then a beatboxer started to back her on the mic, it was absolutely amazing. I was so proud to be part of it,

We all said our peice and decided to leave but word had it that there was a free party somewhere in Slough or Herts, from memory it was Hertfordshire and had been funded by Jarvis from Biology and a few of the others.

From memory it was a weird one for me, I can remember people laying all over the floor and just sitting about, I saw a few people that I knew from the 1989 parties, The Twins Sarah & sara ( very well known on the scene for dressing in costumes) and Micky & Michelle two girls I'm sure that were from Reigate, I often wondered what became of them and everyone else,

After a weird end to a good but weird day, we knew we were defeated and just waited out for rave to go in to clubs, legally...


We could only play it by ear and see what happens.

SKIE - FREEDOM TO PARTY 1990-30 YEARS OF SKIE-MY RAVING YEARS***VINYL***

As we head to the end of 1990 as I remember it, I was living in a place called "Isle of Dogs" to be named in the future "The London Docklands" I watched the DLR grow (Docklands Light Railway) and saw the early erection of Canary Wharf, with its blue wrapping and a rather large crane! 

Sundays we would head under the Thames in the foot tunnel to Greenwich which was like heading in to a different world, street acts by The Cutty Sark and the hippy & spiritual markets were in full force. We were listening to Fantasy FM on the regular and paging in. LFO and psychotropic "out of My Head" take me right back to those days.

My brother has started promoting events in Linford Film Studios  Battersea Called "Faith" with DJ's such as Steve Canueto, Marc Aubach, DJ Hyde from Fantasy (who we became friends with) G Force (from Fantasy) and many more. The music was a combo of UK House 'n' Techno with a lot of Euro (some featured on here) but I'll be doing a Faith party mix very soon.
His parties had a broadcasting company film the events and one particular with DJ Elaine and BSB (British Satelite Broadcasting) who merged with SKY, he was filmed completely off his head when they interviewed him yet it still went out :))The Faith raves  were very successful, he built up and crowd and a mailing list (which was eventually stolen by a lighting guy called Paul) ro run their own events, I think they became Coalesce or something like that from memory.

This one is for Gopi my spirit animal, such a sweet little being who loved laying in the garden listening to the birds but never hurting them . She was always with me in the house wherever I went, she had the biggest purr I’ve ever heard, she was my biggest fan and would lay and listen to me in the mix purring away :) I knew we were on borrowed time after the day it rained all day ( mix on here) when she was diagnosed with metastatic Cancer in Feb 22, I’m only grateful the CBD gave us 18 more months together as the vet said she had a few months to live.

I miss her with all my heart but hopefully mum's looking after her <3

This one is for dad who sadly passed away after a long illness 29/10/23

He was my music inspiration & played a huge part in my musical influences as a very young child growing up, my dad used to play Kraftwerk Autobahn when it was first released in 1974, I was 4 years old and would listen to it with his headphones.

Dad had a stroke seven years ago which damaged his brain consequently leading to a form of Dementia, this led him to eventually have cognitive decline, he eventually gave up the fight.

Rest easy dad, be free <3

2023!! What can I say.....You haven't been that kind to me.

So this year is the first Christmas in my entire life without my mum and dad who were taken from me  between March to October, my mum loved Christmas so this one really hurts. I'll be certainly looking forward to moving in to '24 and trying to find a new reality.

This mix starts deep, melancholy and reflective and pretty much sums up my mood, further in we change up and head in to a more uplifting progressive sound as we get ready for the new year :)

SKIE "MONSTER COOKIES" PART 1- BREAKBEAT 07/01/24

"Mum, how has it been a year!?"

Just before my mother passed away March 2023 she wrote on a piece of paper that wherever her ashes were scattered that we plant two dozen yellow and blue crocus to come out every year early Spring. She eventually said she wanted them in the bluebell woods  that she loved.

In Autumn 2023 my family and I went on a mission to plant these in her favourite woods. We couldn't find the exact place at first as the bluebells weren't in bloom, I asked her for a sign so we knew where to head to. We walked around for some time aimlessly with a carrier bag and a picnic blanket until and all of a sudden I could hear wild parakeets (she loved our new visitors of the skies and would watch them every evening fly back to their nests above her house) They were above the trees in a sunny patch being extremely vocal, I thought...is that the sign, am I being silly? We stood below where they were and they went quiet, we moved on  slightly and they started squawking again, we moved back towards the place and they quietened down. We decided to take that as a sign and planted them under that tree, as we dug them we could see the bluebell bulbs so it was the right place, sign or not....I took it as that ;)

I dedicate this mix to her, we all miss her so much, she was a beautiful soul who loved nature and wildlife <3

This one starts chilled, deep and melancholic and changes up mid flow to some really nice more upbeat tracks ready for the Spring Solstice  mix "New Beginnings" 21.3/24

I'm a DJ, I play other people's music (with the odd production masterpiece)....I mix & blend using my brain and hands, no sync or mixing desk here ;)

Heavily influenced in the early 70’s by my fathers taste in Electronic music /Kraftwerk/Jean Michel Jarre, Tangerine Dream, I was also a big Vangelis & Moroder fan growing up. My teenage years in the 80’s consisted of listening to early 80’s Hip Hop & Electro, Key-Matic, Man Parrish, Bambaata & SSF, Eric B & Rakim. I lived in East London where street breakdancing/body popping was at its peak. Alternative to electrical music I was also a big fan of revival Ska/Two tone bands throughout the late 70’s early 80’s and still am to date.

My DJ’ing journey all started on the London M25 Acid House Warehouse scene back in 1988/89 which inspired me to learn to mix House & Techno in 1990.  I pretty much love most genre's/sub genre's of Dance Music and  mix it all from vinyl to digital.



In 1991 I worked in my brothers record shop "Total Music" in Canning Town in East London, it was there I got the opportunity to secure a weekly radio show on Londons Pulse FM 90.6. Consequently I started to get bookings for The Bass Box Edmonton, Labrynth Dalston Lane, Double Dipped @ Bagleys Warehouse, Ministry Of Sound, Moondance & Love Rave at Camden Koko, Innovation @ Club UN plus many more. I also co-produced a Piano Hardcore track on Soapbar Records back in 1993 and have remixed various tracks for Total Music (Verde Sative) @ Soapbar Reload as the Social Chameleons(with Model from Liquid/Sweet Harmony)producing a Liquid Breaks mix. 

To date you can catch me playing at Various Old Skool events including The mighty “Moondance”, The legendary “Labrynth”. I also have a residency at the South coasts finest charity rave Encapsulated Energy plus various events across the UK spinning Old Skool House/Early 90’s Breakbeat Hardcore/Breaks/Deep-Tech House/Progressive/Uplifting Trance, Old Skool era’s.
