I moved in with my brother and his girlfriend after travel from Debyshire become too much  for me, in return for my bed and board I hoovered the house and sold the tickets for the raves for my brother, in return I also got a free ticket ;)

We organised a coach to take people to White Waltham airfield Bucks ( near Maidenhead) it picked everyone up from Elm Park outside a church called St Albans.  Half of the coach was filled with people I grew up with in the 70's & 80's-on our little journey in to something new and fresh!

We headed around the M25 clueless as to where we were heading but the driver had instructions that my brother had received from a call on the landline from the promoters, we eventually got to the A404 heading to Maidenhead and turned off, I can remember seeing someone in a high vis waving and directing us in to a lane where we could hear the thump of the beat getting closer. Our coach eventually came to a stop and we all 'piled' out like excitable children (bearing in mind we were between 16-30 years old) I remember there was a video camera filming us which was the officlal video for the night.

We had to queue for a bit and I can remember feeling the pounding of the tune "Phantom" by Renegade Soundwave smashing through the side of warehouse as I came up on what was apparently a ‘yellow Cali’

We got inside and litterally ran  to the middle of the warehouse/hangar with excitement, there were already a few people dancing up on the dance platforms below what seemed to be a huge inflatable hanging ball.

I remember offering to get everyone in my small group of friends a drink and I disappeared off in to the middle of the smoke filled hangar, Li'l Lous French Kiss was playing ...as I walked I could feel everything becoming more and more intense until what seemed like a sheet of honeycomb pattens covered my vision in the formation of dry ice and strobe; the next thing I knew I was sitting on the floor in a recovery position with my nose running with the reassuring scent of the Bodyshop's Dewberry lingering close by....I got up continued to get some drinks and some peices of Honey Melon for my friends & returned, apparently I had been gone over an hour :/

The next morning the sun came up and everyone went outside and was dancing around the parked cars, we jumped on our coach and retuned to Essex at around 9AM,  on the way home we stopped for refreshments in a little village shop, our coach pulled up to the side of the road and out about forty ravers dressed in typical 1989 rave clobber decended in to the shop; we bought all of their Lucozade and Strawberry Ribena stock ( I can still remember the shock on the shop keepers shocked face) and we all headed back to Elm Park Essex.

A truly unforgettable weekend that'll stay with me forever.

SKIE - 1989 MY RAVING YEARS PART 4-WHITE WALTHAM ***VINYL SET***:)

August 1989, the long awaited rave had come, The big Sunrise & Back To The Future Festival. Our ticket sales had gone through the roof for this one as Sunrise had proved to be one the best large scale raves in 1989; we literally had people queing out of the front door with ravers from all over Essex wanting tickets.

I chilled in the afternoon with my chicken & Mushroom pot noodle’s ( my staple diet in 1989) and had my hair highlighted ready for the event...only trouble was my hair started smoking because we put tin foil on it and I decided to sit in the garden with the sun blazing down on it; consequently after it was rinsed off, my hair went yellow :/

I had bought a lovely lilac paisley baggy top which matched my purple and green converse Chuck Taylor’s and I was ready for the night ahead!

We all 'piled' in to my brother Joe's hire car straight on to the M25 Thurrock and headed towards the M40 with a mixtape blasting out of the little white F reg Fiesta( which was brand new at the time)

When we reached the junction around midnight and turned off we were waved in by a pilot ( that was what they called the guides) My sister in law and I started to get excited as we could hear the thumping bass kick, we saw the lazers across the sky with a haze and at that moment we parked the car and ran towards the music through the parked cars in the field,...

As we entered we noticed the huge stage in preparation for the rave acts of the night. There was a huge bouncy castle with ravers all over it. There were literally thousands and thousands of like minded ravers in this huge farmers field, all attending this secret special movement, we thought we could change the world, lol....I guess we kind of did.

I remember seeing Doug Lazy PA on stage, it was mind blowing this Hip-House rapper all the way from USA coming to peform live to us English kids of all classes and creeds. I remember the sun was coming up and we were just jumping about to him <3 proper legend.

I remember seeing and sitting with a few famous people at the time including most of the cast of Grange Hill mid 80's and The Wee Papa Girl rappers. I bumped in to a girl I hadn't seen since secondary school in the early 80's from East London just randomly.  I have to say I was absolutely buzzing! Me and my mate Mark Shimmon decided to link arms and literally skip across the whole field with the sun coming up buzzing and if you haven't done that after a good E, you're missing out lol.

Midday came and it was time to leave, everyone was pretty wired by then- my brother asked if I could drive back to Grays as he was mashed ….Thanks Joe :>

In October 1990 Coventry made dance music history...

That first Saturday night/Sunday morning experience was put on at the former Granada Bingo Hall in Lower Ford Street,Coventry,England.

The bingo hall had now been transformed into a 4 floored nightclub, and was also voted the best nightclub in the country in 1991 by fellow ravers through DJ Magazine. With a chill out space including a cinema on the ground floor, a second floor room enough to hold 500 people, and the main room on the top floor holding over a 1000 people including the balcony.

Every Friday and Saturday night would be filled by clubber's and raver's from all over Britain..

Act's such as :The Prodigy, K Klass, SL2, Altern 8, Moby, Shades of Rhythm and LFO all passed through it's door's with live p.a. set's.

Top dj's such as, The great grooverider,carl cox,sasha,frankie bones,Micky finn,top buzz etc,all graced the decks on a reguar basis,and two hour set's were the norm.

February 94,the club was closed.

At the time of closing more than one million people had passed through its doors and it had a standing membership of 74,000. .

I'm a DJ, I play other people's music (with the odd production masterpiece)....I mix & blend using my brain and hands, no sync or mixing desk here, just a basic set up with a couple of tiny 300's, some 1210's from 1992 and an amp from 1997 :D

Heavily influenced in the early 70’s by my fathers taste in Electronic music /Kraftwerk/Jean Michel Jarre, Tangerine Dream, I was also a big Vangelis & Moroder fan growing up. My teenage years in the 80’s consisted of listening to early 80’s Hip Hop & Electro, Key-Matic, Man Parrish, Bambaata & SSF, Eric B & Rakim. I lived in East London where street breakdancing/body popping was at its peak. Alternative to electrical music I was also a big fan of revival Ska/Two tone bands throughout the late 70’s early 80’s and still am to date.

My DJ’ing journey all started on the London M25 Acid House Warehouse scene back in 1988/89 which inspired me to learn to mix House & Techno in 1990.  I pretty much love most genre's/sub genre's of Dance Music and  mix it all from vinyl to digital.



In 1991 I worked in my brothers record shop "Total Music" in Canning Town- East London, it was there I got the opportunity to secure a weekly radio show on Londons Pulse FM 90.6. Consequently I started to get bookings for New Age Productions "Harmony" Hackney1991 -The Bass Box Edmonton, Labrynth Dalston Lane, Double Dipped @ Bagleys Warehouse, Ministry Of Sound, Moondance & Love Rave at Camden Koko, Innovation @ Club UN plus many more. I also co-produced a Piano Hardcore track on Soapbar Records back in 1993 and have remixed various tracks for Total Music (Verde Sative) @ Soapbar Reload as the Social Chameleons(with Model from Liquid/Sweet Harmony)producing a Liquid Breaks mix. 

To date you can catch me playing at Various Old Skool events including The mighty “Moondance”, The legendary “Labrynth”. I also have a residency at the South coasts finest charity rave Encapsulated Energy plus various events across the UK spinning Old Skool House/Early 90’s Breakbeat Hardcore/Breaks/Deep-Tech House/Progressive/Uplifting Trance, Old Skool era’s.
