this is my first time I saw Louie Vega djing in a club in Naples ( the legendary " Cube" )
he played a 4 hour set, constantly on a 3 decks : 3 technics SL 1200 and a mixer PMX 46 vestax rotary fader , it's absolutely amazing, it's one of my best dj set I ever heard and saw in my life, no cds, no computers, though everything mixed precisely , it's a precious piece of music history including, real disco, house , vocal new york garage , dub and every kind of dance music made with soul....close ur eyes and dance....

This is the 160mp3 recording I took directly off the soundboard at the City of Chicago FRANKIE KNUCKLES TRIBUTE.   It was streamed live via audio & video to music lovers around the world on www.Undergroundhouse.tv   

This incredibly electric event took place on Tuesday June 3rd from 6-9pm at Millennium Park in front of the 'Cloud Gate' bean sculpture before a bouncing, joyous crowd of thousands of house-heads... all coming together as one to celebrate the legacy of the Godfather of House Music.... FRANKIE KNUCKLES.   The sun was shining in the blue sky and a positive joyous vibe filled the air.   The DJs (Elbert Phillips, Craig Loftis, Greg Gray and Mike Winston) absolutely crushed it with amazing and heartfelt sets.

Elbert Phillips came of age on the burgeoning Chicago House Music scene in the 1980s. From humble beginnings, Elbert would blaze a trail, his DJing has taken him from Chicago to New York and then the world. After being chosen by Frederick Dunson of D/E Entertainment to play at a birthday party for Frankie Knuckles in 2002, Elbert was given the honored privilege to open for Frankie at public and private gigs over the next four years. Elbert has been working on studio production, resulting in the release of his reworking of Rufuss’ “Higher Together” (DJ Elbert’s Dancefloor Redux) featured on Qalomota’s Classics Remixed, and "Beacon Of Light" featuring spoken word artist, Isa Bright Starr on Qalomota Records (France).

Craig Loftis has been dj’ing in the Chicago music scene since 1979. He received a degree in Sound Engineering, and after redesigning the sound system for Frankie’s club the Powerplant, he became Frankie’s personal sound engineer, opening DJ and general manager. They jointly developed Frankie’s production company Powerplant LTD, did various remixes of existing songs which are now considered Deep House Chicago classics, and soon after concentrated on producing a Chicago artist named Jamie Principle, one of house music first stars.

He later became chief engineer in charge of production for DJ International Records where he engineered, mixed and produced songs for Fast Eddie, Tyree Cooper, Julian Perez, Bad Boy Bill, Frankie Hollywood Rodriguez, Joe Smooth, Sterling Void, Paris Brightledge and Mike Dunn just to name a few. In 2000 Craig also became a member of the Slang Music Group, a remixing company based in Chicago which did mix work on such artist as Pink, Kelly Price, Sisco, R-Kelly, Ruff Endz, Backstreet boys and Whitney Houston. In 2012 Craig and longtime friend Joe Smooth teamed up to form GIFTED SOULS, with one of their first client being Frankie Knuckles himself, for the mix on Frankie’s track “Get Over You” featuring B-SLADE. Gifted Souls has developed a large remix catalog featuring some of largest Labels and Artist on the house music scene worldwide.

DJ Greg Gray has been playing records since he was 12 years old. Greg got into beat mixing in high school and spent two summers as an intern at the Power Plant while he was in college, under the direction of Frankie Knuckles, solidifying their longtime friendship. Greg has seen the music come full circle. His continual DJ’ing and love for the music has made Greg a respected pioneer on the underground scene.

Mike Winston was Frankie's original opening DJ at the Powerplant and longtime friend. A pioneer in 1970’s DJ underground scene, Mike Winston was one of Frankie Knuckles early cohorts and dj collaborators.

In September of 1977 one of the worlds most influential clubs opened up in New York's Greenwich Village, at 84 King Street. No one knew back then that this club would live for a decade and that it would also give name to an own music genre - "Garage"...

The club was of course the legendary Paradise Garage or - "the Garage" as the regular guests used to refer to it. The club was owned and run by the late Michael Brody.
Prior to becoming the Paradise Garage, the place was a short lived club called Chameleon. The guys behind that club worked on turning the old garage into a club.

Chameleon opened up in December 1975 and they had Natalie Cole performing on the opening night. The club had a triangular (pyramid) sign with a Chameleon logo over the entrance and the DJ booth was also pyramid-shaped (and aligned true to North in order to garnish the most benefit from the then current fad of "pyramid power"). But the club was closed down just some months later.

When the Garage opened in September of 1977, the club was far from ready so originally there were only "construction parties" held and during this time of construction the club was called the 84 King Street Garage, to later become the Paradise Garage by the official opening in February 17, 1978.

The Garage was not fully completed by the opening and they kept throwing "construction parties" occasionally for yet another year... They even had a small wrench as the membership "card"!

The club fast became a very important piece to the now rapidly grooving Disco Music scene. The club with its very open-minded, mainly black gay clientele became one of the trendiest places in no time. Everyone wanted to know what was going on there and wanted to test their songs/remixes on the Garage audience.

As famous and legendary as the club itself was the Garage's DJ - the late Larry Levan. Larry was the resident DJ of "the Garage" and to many people he was "the Garage". Lots of people, and other DJ's, came to the club just to hear him play... He was a true master behind the turntables.
Unfortunately the club was forced to close down in September 26, 1987.
