I have spent the last 6 months putting together a mix of bass influenced house.  I have been so inspired by the music which has been released recently, that I felt that I needed to compile a mix of this great music which has given me so much joy. 
 
This mix started when I discovered the song “Vibe Alert” by No Thanks. After listening to this song roughly 100 times, I felt that I needed to find many more songs to accompany it.  Right around this same time, I found out about an artist named San Pacho.  Anyone who knows me well, knows that when I find an artist I love, I start devouring their whole library, studying every song like I am about to take an exam on their sound.  After playing San Pacho’s tracks for a few months, I then made the bold move of reaching out to him on Instagram, asking about his music and praising his sound.  He responded by sending me a library of unreleased tracks, which have been at the core of almost every one of my sets since June.
 
All of this being said, I have put together a mix that I am very happy with.  It has taken countless hours of my time and I consider it the last mix I will be working on for a long time.  While the style may not satisfy all tastes,  I hope you can appreciate the time, intention, and emotion I put into this.  This mix is peak Gene Lee.

"This mix is a midtempo/funky house journey through some of my favorite genres- soul, hip-hop, gospel, bluegrass, Dolly (yeah, Dolly probably counts as her own genre). It makes me and mine move our happy asses and I hope it does the same for you and yours. Shout out to my crews Brass Tax and Angels of bAss- proud to still be going strong after all these years with y'all. And to HazMatt and my little man QDubs- my biggest cheerleaders and harshest critics who egg me on with DJ treats (french fries and booty shakes) but also never hesitate to tell me when something sounds "yucky." This Canada Day version of Promise Cherry Beach was one of our best events ever on the beach. it was our first super hot day that year, all of our friends were there in full force, and there was an incredible happy magic in the air everywhere. 

The focus of the day was Canadian djs and great party music. Smalltown Djs are huge western Canada superstars, creating touring projects with the like-minded Dirtybird crew in California, and slaying great dj slots at the massive westcoast fesivals of Shambala and Bass Coast.  They rolled in with a huge westcoast party smash-down set and helped us create the best Canada Day party.

This set was inspired by my first return visit to my roots town of Asheville, NC in 20 years. A town where you can still find a speakeasy where they roll up the rug on the dancefloor and you can dance barefoot all night to a Ragtime or Western Swing band while the bartender mixes you pipe smoke Old Fashioneds. The town that provided my musical roots, before I ever knew that electronic music existed. Here's to you, Asheville. California may have my heart, but you still have my soul.
