I first heard @dj_bricks playing in a cellar-esque space beneath a huge tree: an almost secret stage at an almost secret party. BRICKS is a slice of genuine magic, both on the decks and off them. I could go on and on, really, but instead I'll leave this mix to do (most of) the talking. 

When I set up the guestmix series for PAIJATA I had a kinda specific vision, and each guest has provided me with their own take on that vision (which is what I wanted all along). But, BRICKS' Retrograde Pleasures strikes me right in the spot that triggered the whole journey with PAIJATA in the first place. Mega love for this... enjoy.

2023's final PAIJATA is a live recording taken from the incredibly inspiring event organised by AVA Kolektiv in Brno, with Ulla headlining. The space was beautifully decorated with rugs and cozy blinking lights, and the neon of the shopping district all around us fuzzed through the windows. Big highlight of the year, and delighted to share the recording.

Following their contribution to the 2022 International Women’s Day compilation, and a co-production credit on “Dreaming is Essential” by Byron Yeates, Eoin DJ drops their first release on Radiant Records, Total Body. The 4-track EP is replete with mind-bending, lustrous tracks waiting to be spun out to sweatbox dancefloors.

On the B side, “Ultra Soft” lifts off with a firm kick and a rolling 3-note bassline. Despite the title, the track hits harder than “Total Body” and sings with Eoin DJ signatures: swirling funnels of processed vocals, rich, ear-itching textures, stripped back percussion and rave-ready samples are sprinkled with 303s, to create a track that sits comfortably with both classic trance and techno and contemporary “Progressive” dance music.

My name’s Lucie (she/her) and I live deeeep in South London.

This set was originally recorded at Goo Night in Spanners, a snug, intimate venue in South East London. Imagine a roomful of free, sweaty bodies moving to the rhythm, surrounded by dense red-tinted haze. The atmosphere was sexy and sticky that night. 

A little disclaimer regarding the recording. I had to re-record the second part of the set at home due to sound quality but the essence of it is in no way compromised 🙂

+ 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐮𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫?
I wanted to put together a set focusing on spaciousness and the interplay between heady depth and liberating playfulness, exploring ways in which the two can meaningfully coexist. The idea was to allow the audience to release their body fully on the dancefloor so obviously there had to be a good amount of energy running through the veins of the set. But at the same time, I really wanted to tickle their minds, open doors to imagination, introduce depth so if one really listens in, there is a whole world of sonic magic to explore - a complexity both sonic and emotional. 

+ 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮r 𝐫𝐞𝐤𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐛𝐨𝐱 / 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐠𝐢𝐠?
The process always starts with digging for new music that sets the tone for the playlist or when packing my record bag. I look for a specific flavour of sounds for each gig, thinking about the context in which I will be playing and trying to understand what possible directions I can take. 

Once I select those fresh tracks, I start building the rest of the playlist around it, first more generally and as I listen back with the set approaching, I keep refining it until it feels like it has enough substance. At the same time, I make sure it is generous enough so I can cover a lot of ground if the gig goes in a different direction than what I expected. It’s always a balance of keeping one’s artistic integrity while working with the crowd to create a powerful experience for everyone.

Terra Obscura is a collaborative event I run together with my close friend Alicia. We started the series back in March 2022 at Ormside Project which is still our home to this day. Me and Alicia have an impressive overlap in terms of music taste but we are also quite good at challenging each other's ideas which I believe is important for a healthy growth of any project. We are both into a lot of deep, intricate music within the ambient & downtempo, techno, breaks & bass realm to give you a very rough idea about our programming. 

When we are building a line-up, we always throw around a lot of names and then try to find a common thread among the artists we want to book. We imagine how their sound would work in a particular slot and how their sets would flow into each other so there is a sense of development throughout the night. This process is usually quite long but in some ways really intuitive. 

What is very important for us is to approach the event as a whole, a night that effortlessly moves forward along a curatorial narrative, one step at a time from the start to the very end, moving from horizontal ambient to sweaty dance as it progresses.

25 Years today since Dj Kemistry passed away , not sure where the time goes and I will always miss my Soul Sista that will never leave me but I was always the luckiest to have had this amazing woman and human being in my life .
We loved every second of the up's and down's of striving to become Kemistry & Storm it was our absolute passion.
So I know I gave you 2 hours of this set to listen to on my Kool Fm show last october but it was a 3 hour set so here it is , enjoy.

Reefs typically develop near the ocean's surface, and host a brightly colored ecosystem.  They are densely populated with fish, mollusks, crustaceans, sponges, algae, invertebrates, and countless microorganisms.  Most notably, reefs are made of coral: colonies of polyps that build large calcium carbonate structures as communal shells.
