Ayce Bio and Turenne take Funclab Records back to its roots with the superb club-orientated ‘Traffic Cone’ EP. Both hailing from Italy, Turenne and Bio have a shared love of analogue sounds, jazz and world music with the artists producing soulful, hypnotic grooves on labels like Bosconi, Axe on Wax and Juicy Traxx. 

 ‘Oddball’ is a track with heady house vibe, filled with twitchy cosmic pads and warped chords. This late-night roller has a cinematic feel and is rife with intricate sound design, combining into a potent two-tracker meant to send the dancefloor into a craze.

Ukrainian Field Notes VA is a fundraising compilation with a difference, music with a backstory that gives a first-hand account of the unfolding events since the full-scale Russian invasion in real time, and presents an overview of the changing face of the Ukrainian music scene dictated by blackouts and curfew restrictions.

What started off as an ongoing series of interviews with Ukrainian artists for the experimental music website A Closer Listen has now become a book comprising all 170 interviews conducted over the course of a year mapping out the electronic and experimental scene in Ukraine.

All musicians involved were asked to submit a track composed after February 24, 2022 to mark its publication. The resulting material reflects the diaristic nature of the book and deals with PTSD, displacement, separation, and loss, and shows at the same time the strength and resilience of Ukrainian artists with a meditative and uplifting reach.

The track listing follows the chronological order of the interviews, switching from ambient and electronic to classical and experimental in a seemingly random fashion, but war is chaotic and shattering, or as Serhii Zhadan writes in Sky Above Kharkiv, “War sharply changes ways of seeing, changes feelings.” Ukrainian Field Notes is a testament to the shifting sonic and human landscape.

Отриманий матеріал відображає щоденниковий характер книги і стосується ПТСР, переміщення, розлуки та втрати, а також демонструє силу та стійкість українських митців з медитативним та піднесеним звучанням.

Трек-лист відповідає хронологічному порядку інтерв'ю, переходячи від ембієнту та електроніки до класики та експериментальної музики у, здавалося б, випадковий спосіб, але війна є хаотичною та руйнівною, або, як пише Сергій Жадан у "Небі над Харковом", "війна різко змінює способи бачення, змінює почуття". "Ukrainian Field Notes VA" - це свідчення мінливого звукового та людського ландшафту.

Talented Colombian music producer and DJ, Juan Pablo, known in the electronic scene as "Kpra", is preparing to release his latest work, an EP titled "Moon Format". His artistic versatility has led him to experiment with a variety of musical genres, including electro, Latin club, ghetto tech and hardgroove techno, resulting in a diverse and energetic sound that sets him apart in the scene.

In his sets, Kpra has stood out for his ability to mix genres and sounds in a fluid and creative way, offering unique and exciting club experiences that adapt to the environment and the audience. He has performed in several cities and events in Colombia, bringing his music to new audiences while maintaining his musical roots.

Mix 005 is brought to us by French Dju:n! She is a seasoned selector and label boss. Learn about her in our interview below:

Dju:n does her first steps as a DJ in 2019 and get noticed because of the numerous music genres she plays. She began mostly with Post-Rock, EBM and Electro then bit by bit added other styles like Ghetto Techno, Breakbeat and Jungle.

In this profusion of tracks, she focuses on those most galvanizing ones and finds unusual ways to mixing vibes we intuitively and falsely would consider too different to fit.

What is your artist name and where are you based out of?
Dju:n, currently based in Brest, France

Can you tell us a little about this mix?
This mix is a nod to my label Purple Records, which promotes breakbeat, jungle and techno aesthetics. I really like this mix, because I was able to really explore my breaks side!

What are you working on now that you are most excited about?
I created a project called Purple Universe, with two friends Swooh and Poppie, which is a booking agency and a label. It takes up all my time, and I want to develop it as much as possible. It's a project of a lifetime, and it's important for me to make a living from my passion and work with people who are important to me.

Any hobbies outside of music?
Alongside this project, I organize parties with my other association WestSound and work for other structures in the same field. My whole life revolves around music. The rest of my time is spent with my friends, and I love going out!

Where can we see you perform next?
The oct 31h, for Halloween, I play with Olympe 4000 and Cuften at La Suite club (Brest) and the nov 11th at Decadanse (Nantes)
