We welcome Scottish DJ, producer Kai 5 aka Paul Mendez to 'Bonzai Classics' with the pumping techno two-tracker titled, Strange Days. Paul is no stranger to us here at Bonzai Music, for the last number of years he's been delivering some fine melodic progressive and techno offerings on our Bonzai Progressive imprint as Mendexx. But long before that, he graced these shores with choice cuts during the uplifting trance era as Exposure, alongside studio partner M.I.K.E. Push, also with Jacob & Mendez and Morpheus, alongside Steve Helstrip. An internationally respected artist, Paul has been on the world stage for over 25 years, rubbing shoulderS with other top jocks in some of the very best venues. 300 plus single releases, gold discs, festival theme tracks, TV shows, movie soundtracks, radio commercials and over one million plays on sound-cloud all make for an awesome CV which shows the caliber of the maestro he is. Great to have him on BC.
We get started with the title track – Strange Days, which ploughs into a full-on, bass laden techno joint right from the off. Thumping kick drums and slicing hi hats set the scene as rumbling low frequencies bubble up from the depths. Dark synths, chilling stabs and a gnarly spoken word add to the nocturnal nature of the track as squelching 303 lines weave through the groove. There Is Only One Way concludes the release, keeping with that thunderous, pounding techno theme thanks to chunky beats, sharp percussion's and menacing low-end. The track is centered around teasing synth pads, dystopian vocals and dark arpeggios. The break reveals more of the arps as the filters open before crashing back into full swing for the duration. Two solid cuts, only for the headstrong.

Originally hailing from Germany, DJ Buzze is now partnered up with Greenville House Music Movement and is making waves in town. FREQUENCY UNDERGROUND INTERVIEW WITH DJ BUZZE:

◾Real Name: Mark Buziak

◾Current city:  Easley, SC but moving to Simpsonville SC hopefully this year.

◾DJ Collective: Greenville House Music Movement (playing on Events with DJ Sawce and Zoltan) Currently on Think Tab Brew Events once a month.

◾How did you come up with your dj name (or why did you use your actual name): Buzze was my nickname in Germany, used it when i was MC on Hardcore Techno parties, there i was MC da Buzz, Buzz was short for Buzze, so my DJ name is DJ Buzze now. 

◾How and when did you get into djing: I always was into djing since i started with making music on an Amiga 500. Then i jumped into Hardcore Techno in Germany and became MC from 2002-2017 with some interruptions.

◾Who are your musical influences and what is your inspiration: Back in the days my musical influence came from several directions. I never followed one particular DJ, for me it was the beat and the music environment where i was. In germany we started with bunker parties, or in the forrest, then back to Warehouses and super huge parties with crowed to a million people. That was what i liked. I saw DJ's playing in a treehouse and on big stages. When i was MC i performed for 10 people and then up to thousands on a big party. I am inspired by some DJ's that play at Defected events, and nowadays also inspired by Resistance.

◾Describe your sound as a DJ: My Sound is upbeat disco funk style. From Funky House to Glitterbox style basically.

◾What does the future hold in store for you as an artist: I would love that we have a huge event here in Greenville, maybe once per year with a lot of people coming. I would love to play on certain events and hopefully in a club too.

Quality music since 2002!

I started in the music business as Da Buzz in 2002 in Germany and hosted several parties from 50 up to 5000 people and travelled the weekends to several cities from 2002 to 2011, and played with several high performance DJ's in the local german Techno scene.

Made a small break from music between 2012 and 2014 during a work transition from Germany to USA.

In 2014 I made a small came back to Germany and performed at several events with big Names in the House music industry like DJ Hooligan at a big event that we hosted in my Hometown Luedenscheid (south from Dortmund).

In 2017 I moved again from Germany to USA, but this time for good.
Here in Greenville, SC I found the love for house music again

Known as DJ Buzze now, I played at several events and local establishments around Greenville SC and started HOUSE PALOOZA Events in 2023.

Special thanks to my lovely girlfriend Summer who supports me in all ways 100%.
