Pulling together all the elements that define London’s underground culture – at a time when it feels most under threat – StreetFest is a platform for some of the country’s most creative minds to express themselves, and with attractions fit for all ages to engage with.

The anniversary edition is taking place on September 15th in Dalston’s Gillet Square (itself a vibrant hub of independent traders), the perfect location for a block party set to live long in the memory.

Junious Brickhouse founded Urban Artistry in 2005 with a small group of friends  in the Washington, D.C. Metro Area. Deep house was largely pioneered by Chicago producers such as Marshall Jefferson (On the House) and Larry Heard (Mr. Fingers) and with tracks such as "Mystery of Love" (1985) and "Can You Feel It?" (1986);[8] the latter had a similar impact on deep house as Derrick May's "Strings Of Life" (1987) did on Detroit techno.[9] The jazzy sound became more common due to the favored use of gentler, more organic (yet still synthesizer based) production and instrument sounds. Author Richie Unterberger has stated that Heard's deep house sound moved house music away from its posthuman tendencies back towards the lush, soulful sound of early disco music (particularly that of old Philadelphia International and Salsoul records).[10]

Today, the term Deep House is often misused[11], and is utilized to encapsulate various types of bassline driven house music.

"Angola" is the 3rd release on Oyasound produced by Sabine Blaizin and Okai Musik. Angola pays homage to the Angolan people of Africa who contributed to the ancestral fighting styles of Brazil and Haiti. Vocalist Okai chose to put a traditional Haitian song (Panama'm tonbe) and a traditional Brazilian Capoeira song (Paranaue) together because of their phonetic similarities. Oyasound thanks the ancestors of Angola and the Kongo for their contribution to the art of fighting and their use of iron hence the machete in the artwork. Native to Angola, the berimbau, which crosses the machete, is a musical instrument used in Capoeira. Allow the rhythms of this track to connect you to your inner dance warrior!

What I can’t express in words. Music always does. Music is how we have always coped with our experienced traumas as black people, how we told our stories. So I channelled that into a mix. 

A mix of songs relevant for the times, songs with a message, a story, tracks from iconic albums, songs of truth, empowerment and pride... F.U.B.U.
