They said it couldn't be done. A single USB couldn’t handle so much sauce. So many styles couldn't be mixed without losing the crowd. It might have worked in the 90s, but times have changed. They said a lot of things… But on the 14th of July, at the Ritual Gatherings festival in Bulgaria, the naysayers were proven wrong. 

Many there that day said it was the moment they first gained pelvis awareness. At least 17 people were reported to have called their mothers immediately after the final track. An overlooked Bulgarian techno legend who hasn't spoken at a party since 2005 set his Rakia on the bar, nodded approvingly, and uttered a single word… “добре”

A lone cassette tape made it out of Bourgas that night - surreptitiously recorded by an unknown local. We're thankful that this moment in dance music history was captured, for it is a testament to the power of good music, the indefatigable human spirit, and the long-standing love between Afriqua and the Bulgarian people.

This Saturday something came over me, 
I was feeling gloomy and choked up by all the anger, hate, pain and suffering I’ve been witnessing in the recent weeks.

I felt a deep need to expess my feelings .

All beauty, joy, pain and suffering of our Sisters and Brothers can be experienced in It's expression in music.

May these Sounds provide you a glimpse into the diversity and beauty of Our beloved human race.
So many different colours, customs, Languages and religions etc . So much beauty and so much pain.
Words to express fall short…

Music tells stories and reflects back emotions we can relate to in our day to day lives.

These mix is not about beat matching and smooth transitions.
I’ts a mirror that reflects how although life can be smooth sailing sometimes.
Abrupt changes are just behind corner.

Some moments in this mix can probably feel intense or even uncomfortable,  but so is life sometimes....
Without the struggles and suffering there would be no appreciation and inevitably there the would be no growth.
we should be grateful when it teaches us!

I have faith that in the end there is light and the good will prevail.
People who we judge as doing evil are sometimes doing good in their own minds.
There is no evil out here. Only human ignorance.

My message is not to divide and polarise. 

Its a global cry for peace, love, understanding and forgiveness.

War is not the answer. Only Love can conquer hate!

This is the third installment in the Local Sugar Diggers Series from Scruniversal in which old and rare records from the label head's friend's collections get reworked and edited. This one is a collab between ScruScru and an equally passionate digger from Cyprus known as Dwaal. Both tunes offer quite different looks but with great results. The first is the steamy and loose-limbed 'Destination? Funk!' with its squelchy bass and neat guitar riffs, while the flipside is a super deep and lush downtempo jam, 'Camelot Chill'. This one has romantic sax notes and gentle grooves with jazzy keys finishing it in style.

PREMIERE: Scruscru & Dwaal - Destination? Funk! [Scruniversal]

Dwaal is from Cyprus and DJing since 2012 in various clubs, beach clubs and bars around the world. He studied music production at Manchester in 2013 and Audio Engineering at Berlin in 2015. He was living in Mexico between 2019-2023 and enjoyed the tranquil life in Tulum and played around the best venues in Mexico such as Nomade, Be Tulum, Tree House Tulum, Habitas, Gitano, Hotel Panamera, Departamento, Supra and many more. In the summer of 2023, he returned to his hometown Cyprus and worked at Camelot Beach Club as booking manager and hosted his event series Boogie Around The World by hosting great DJs like Bosq, Scruscru, Birdee and more. He is now based in Bali.

He plays diverse music selections from genres like downtempo, electronica, disco, funk, soul, jazz, house music, rare grooves, world music and Latin rhythms.

(I had a lot more DJ sets that I played in my first 7 years of DJing which I played more darker and techy music but I deleted them as they are not representing my actual style anymore because I have been playing more groovy vibes and world music in the last 5 years)
