A year after ‘The First Milestone’ we can say that Infinite Depth reached its second milestone. Around this milestone a 10-track strong VA is compiled. On this VA there are some of the label’s familiar faces like His. Creator, U S H N U, Klankveld, Alberth and Symmetric. Besides, we are having back Convolute, Altman and bastinov from earlier remix duties. Also, Infinite Depth is welcoming two new talents, Final Request and Dario Gismondi.

The collection starts off with ‘Evasive’, a dreamy and compelling ambient intro track by the talented Dutch duo Convolute. First the atmospheric elements give you a calm feeling, after which the lower part drags you into the depth. 

From this depth the pleasant intro of His. Creator’s ‘Tears of an Angel’ rises. This track has a hopeful character and is loaded with a lot of emotion. That makes it a great representation of the brighter side of this VA and the label’s sound.

At the third track by Final Request, called ‘The Void’, this brightness got a somewhat fierce layer, which gets accompanied by a underlaying groove. Out of this combination an uplifting lead comes up, resulting in a burst of energy. 

After the dancefloor orientated third track, it’s time for the minimalistic approach of U S H N U. In his track ‘Swallow Fly Far Away’, the drums and percussion are flowing their way through the track. Around this some unexpected and interesting one-shot elements are constructed. Not to forget his self-recorded vocals.

The minimalistic vibe gets preserved in Altman’s ‘Hold On’, but he managed to do this in a more melodic way. The refreshing mixed percussion are giving the space to an intriguing lead, which is going up and down, forming some very intense moments. 

The sixth track is the one by bastinov, called ‘Transition’ and is also belonging to the brighter and emotional side of the VA. The track got directed by dramatic female vocals, which are perfectly in play together with the bright lead synths. 

In their track ‘Vortex’, Klankveld used vocals in a completely different way. Their track is based on short and communicating one-shots. The driving lower part and energetic, but still groovy, elements are making this track perfect for the bigger stages. 

Dario Gismondi’s ‘Cocito’ is opening up the doors to the darkest side of the VA. Unusual, but impressive, drums are forming the base. On top of this base a captivating synth drags you into the track, when suddenly it gets broken down by a dark force.

The nineth track, ‘Oblivion’, got provided by one of the labels residents Alberth. Through the composition he managed to create an increasing intensity in his melody and drums, which gets interrupted by a dreamy break and rises again towards the end of the track. 

The final track is called ‘Desires’ and is brought to you by another resident Symmetric. Around the straight forward lower part a lot of unpredictable components are hovering. With his more techno approach Symmetric delivered an impressive end to this collection of tracks, which are representing the achievement of the label’s second milestone.

Real house heads will remember the days when it wasn’t uncommon for artists to make multiple mixes of the same track for their release, and every DJ who played the record had their favorite mix. This way of doing things has fallen to the wayside in the days of digital, perpetuated by a fear that “splitting sales” might hurt chart positions. Well, Sharam wants you to know that he doesn’t care, and his new single harkens back to this sacred, old school tradition. “The Rain” is not just one amazing record – it is three.

The track features the vocals of Adam Englefield, aka Bengle, who crafted these beautiful, haunting lyrics specifically for Sharam's ever-so-meloncholic sound. As if it was needed, the release further displays Sharam’s versatility as a producer, pouring his talent into 3 distinct mixes, each with its own special flavor around the vocals as if three different artists remixed it.

We kick things off with the New York mix, which alone sounds like three unique mixes. It starts deep and ominous, then moves into a building section which captures your attention as it moves continuously upward toward the final section, a huge and impending drop which has had crowds going nuts for months. The climax in the New York mix cannot be understated, it’s an explosion of energy the likes of which only Sharam could conjure.

We move next to the London mix. With its more straight-ahead arrangement amidst alluring melodies and hypnotic elements, this one is more apt for bigger rooms and festivals, yet its consistently deep and keeps the eerie and memorable vibe of the vocals at the forefront.

Finally, the Detroit mix provides an option for those who like their records dirty and raw. Where the New York and London mixes are sleek and polished, the Detroit mix strips things down to its bare, groovy essentials. Its classic, Juno-inspired chords and 909 snare smacks wouldn’t sound out of place in a 90’s house mix out of Chicago, but Sharam seemingly got his inspiration from Detroit. You be the judge.

Altogether, the three distinct mixes come together to create a diverse and exciting body of work that is at once dark, deep, epic, and singularly Sharam. He and Bengle have proven themselves a dream team, gifting the world with this unique record.

'Yoshitoshi Celebrates 25 Years with Three Genre-Focused Compilations : House, Techno, Melodic House.

For the Melodic House edition of Yoshitoshi 25, we’ve focused on the tracks that were either too proggy for house or too melodic for techno. Many house historians would claim that this sound has been Yoshitoshi’s bread and butter throughout the years, and this final entry into the Yoshitoshi 25 compilation series demonstrates exactly why. As with the other two compilations, we’ve selected a handful of freshly remastered, stone-cold classics such as PQM’s “You Are Sleeping (Luke Chable Mix),” Valentino’s “Flying,” and Morel’s “True (The F****t Is You - Deep Dish Remix),” and mixed them up with the most memorable modern records from Yoshitoshi’s catalogue like OC & Verde’s “Indica,” Khainz’s “Collider,” and Red Axes’ remix of Dino Lenny’s “I Feel Stereo.” Of course the package wouldn’t be complete without some new remixes, so Sharam and Armonica have delivered some beautifully-crafted reworks of Yoshitoshi classics. Sharam takes on Luzon’s mega-classic “The Baguio Track,” turning the tune into a dark roller that has been the talk of his recent Burning Man sets. Armonica crafted an amazing remix of Anarcrusan’s “In My Mind” that winds gracefully between delicate, dreamy riffs and bouncy, bass-driven breakdowns. The final package is a perfect way to end the Yoshitoshi 25 series, giving both new listeners and longtime fans of the label an expansive view of the label’s legacy.
