Born in Montreal, Canada Johnny Messina grew up in a city rich and diverse in music styles. After many years on the sidelines of the music scene, he decided in 2005 to take the leap at making his passion a career. With a mixtape in his hand and hope in his heart he gave his music to a DJ and landed his first resident gig spinning for 1000+ club goers.

After years of a career in the commercial electronic scene, he discovered the DJS who sculpted his sound to what it is today. Hernan Cattaneo, Danny Tenaglia, Guy J and John Digweed are his biggest inspirations. Since finding his true sound, Johnny has played alongside many talented local and international DJS in Montreal, Canada's most popular clubs Stereo Afterhours, Stereobar, New City Gas and Circus Afterhours.

"The Montreal community unites under the “Abandoned ___” series banner again this May for a one day monster party in the Eastern Townships, Quebec. The party, which has made it’s name reinventing abstract, vacant locales into vibrant electronic music hotspots, is taking over a vast school setting in the name of ‘Abandoned Academy’.

The effort brings together local collectives, including the likes of Husa Sounds, Front Rite, 8day, Octov, Ancient Future and more, for the one day event. The bill welcomes Diynamic pair Adana Twins, who will lead the outdoor soiree joined by local talents like Drol. (Live), Chiino and Risa. While late night proceeding will take place inside the school with appearances from Atroxx, Jimmy Be, Or Room, Johnny Messina, Rafa Pineda, Adam Husa, Kris Tin and Vowels & White."

Born and raised in Montreal, Canada, Johnny Messina has been DJing for almost 15 years. His style of progressive techno has been influenced by Hernan Cattaneo, Danny Tenaglia, Guy J, and John Digweed. Messina has toured internationally, alongside Marcelo Vasami, and has played alongside some of the world’s most accomplished DJ’s at Stereo, Montreal.

In May, 2017, Johnny Messina played an incredible set for INSTITUTION and MEMETIC, at the Pyramid Cabaret, in Winnipeg, Canada. This guest mix, INSTITUTION 003, is based on that magical night. Thank you, Johnny!
