Juno Review:

It's only so long before Liam Geddes becomes a name you'll start hearing on the worldwide underground stage. Having already churned out a number of uncompromisingly deep house tracks over the past couple of years, he comes armed with another exceptional EP on MIL - the third release on the new Music Is Love sister label - that further demonstrates his genuine dynamism as a producer. The With Closed Eyes EP should win this very talented producer the recognition his fresh beat work deserves Into the Wild gets proceedings underway; a ripping bassline paves out over rattling percussion shakes while oscillating dream like jingles play out during the course of the track. Chopped vocal samples are introduced and tease against the shuffling drums which elevates the track with real drive and groove. Close Ya Eyes for the Journey packs the same layer of heat with its similarly groove-heavy bassline - a staple of Geddes' well-crafted sound. Firmly footed, intermittent chimes seep into the track and are complemented by siren-like chords which grow truer in presence, until a hypnotic vocal snippet fulfils the deep terrains of the track. A Saint is a tumultuous techno-fused roller with it's rip-roaring bassline and percussive loops which rhythmically swing out over shuddering pads, sustained chords and a cut up female vocal, brining a twist of colour to the arrangements of the track. There's a keen sense of tension and release, elevating this above your average and confirms Geddes does depth and darkness with real conviction. Broke will surely prove a high point for any decent DJ set, and sounds like a cut you'd expect from someone like Delano Smith. Strings faintly play out over looped key chimes and a funk-like riff, while ticking hi-hats and a careful use of vocal sample gives the track extra heat, each element powered by the rumbling bassline

The next record from the bright young NDV stable comes from a couple of outrageously talented folk by the name of Chris Woodward (Buzzinfly) and Antanas Antanelis. This is the first record from these guys and they're no novices. This crafted and heavy hitting slice of house is a perfect fit for the NDV mould. The Magnificent Afrikaan Donce EP is full of chunky house tones, shades of MPC, hip hop and sample based house along with a tougher edge.

These guys have a lot of experience releasing music under alternative monikers for labels like Drumpoet Community, Buzzin Fly and others, but it's NDV who get the courtesy of presenting their first offering as the duo Chris & Antanas.

To top it off, this EP has 2 remixes which don't mess about. Both of these blew us away, it is safe to say this whole record came together easily. First up we have the man, the legend........ MR G!! Fresh off the back of a new album and with plenty of fuel still in the tank, Mr G picks up the pace and applies his trademark rolling housey/techno groove to some thick and moody pads. He brings out a pure evolving feeling with this super clean re-cut.

The icing on this already delightful cake comes from Manchester's man of the moment - Oli Furness. A good friend and the fearless leader of Music Is love and MIL. He is on red hot form at the moment and flips the B side with some absolutely funkadelic swagger and jazz-tastic remoulding of the original....we're marking this remix as his finest work yet.

***This came out before web reviews, however, IMHO, it's one of the most badass and technically accomplished mixes of its time.

The pic is an actual scan, the Cream logo is embossed and the light gold and gray print doesn't show up very well, but it's Cream for  sure... :-)

Manchester star Oli Furness will soon be leaving his mark on Hot Creations sister label Emerald City with the irresistibly groovy ​Wanna Lie Down, featuring Chicago’s own Parris Mitchell on the ​remix. 

Oli’s output is characterized by dynamic range and rhythmic groove, and Wanna​ Lie Down is no exception. Raw, chugging beats, distinct vocals and subtle percussions create an undeniable swing that make you move. ​Oli Furness explains​ “the​ thing I like most about this track is when I hear it out, I’ve noticed it kinda washes a carefree vibe over the listeners, which is always a joy to see.” 

Oli’s ability to veer between genres with ease and style is reflected in the depth of his releases on labels like Hot Creations, VIVa Music, Nervous, Morris Audio, Skylax and his own labels Music Is Love and MIL. Learning his trade through heroes like Ron Hardy, he also recorded as Victor Romeo and Rhythm II Rhythm. Having released on the Berlin based Deep Moves, this next remix on Emerald City takes on delectable tribal tones with prominent hi-hats and bright musical keys.

Nick Beringer finds himself on Organic Music once again, this time supplying two tracks to the 'Synergy' EP, which also includes two tracks from Wax Isgud head honcho Tato.

Mixmag presents the exclusive premiere of Beringer's 'High Lines', a stripped back floor filler from the depths of the deepest deep house. The German producer has been steadily carving out his place in the underground with releases on Taverna Tracks and Käse Kool, while also launching his Rubisco label earlier this year. Expect more raw grooves to surface soon from this fresh talent.

Look for the 'Synergy' EP to be released September 15.
