For the 12th show on Cowbell Radio I am honoured to bring you an exclusive mix from Amsterdam based DJ & Producer - Mr Mendel.  We split the mix into 3 parts for the show but here is the full version in all it's glory.

Mr Mendel started out spinning records at the infamous Duivel Cafe Bar, a place well known as a hub of raw hip-hop. This landed him a residency at Freakin Ill, an old school club night at Bitterzoet, Amsterdam.

However Mr Mendel soon discovered that hip hop just wasn't enough. His job at Waxwell Records was introducing him to soul, disco, afro and brazil records, and he instantly fell in love with the smell of dust, thousands of album covers and the crackling sound of old vinyl.

As Mr Mendel honed his DJ’ing skills he developed an all-round style; collecting and spinning dance music from all corners of the globe with only one condition “as long as it’s good soulful music”.

Always selecting passionate and intriguing tunes, expect to hear sexy melodies, funk filled basslines, energetic drums, exotic percussion and euphoric vocals.

Sometimes you’ll catch him play banging disco and house, while at other times he might surprise you with downtempo soul and tropical vibes. Mr Mendel also curates the tropical playlist for 22tracks Amsterdam.

Definitely a kindred spirit, it's this wide and varied taste that led us to ask him to do a mix for the show.

As a DJ, Mr Mendel currently holds down residencies in Amsterdam at parties such as 'I Love Vinyl', 'Wicked Jazz Sounds' and 'Doka'.  He's both influenced by and has played alongside DJ's such as Rich Medina, Rahaan, Sadar Bahar, John Morales, Lefto, Marcel Vogel, Rob Manga and KC The Funkaholic.

As a producer he has edited big tracks by the likes of Nina Simone and James Brown. Plus the Mr Mendel edit of 'Trio Ternura's' A Gira got support from the likes of Giles Peterson.

His recent 'Mr Mendel edits' on Basic Fingers has all but sold out in the shops but is still available on Discogs.

Mr Mendel's new track 'Far Away' is included on the forthcoming Lumberjacks Boogie Vol 1 12" - the EP also features tracks by Rayko, Em Vee aka Marcel Vogel and Man Made Music.

High up in the (new) disco mafia, Mr Mendel knows how to rock a party and there are loads of top selections on this world class mix.

If James Brown had ever worked with the Fania crew this is probably what they would have come up with...
