This set was created for my birthday and has music that caters to all shapes and flavors of EDM. I wanted to capture EDM in all its greatness with touches of Latino music as it embodies the melting pot of culture on those who listen to EDM.

This event was lowkey so this was definitely a different kind of set. 
We were celebrating my friend, Julie's birthday which was Y2k theme.
Of course I will always mix EDM into my craft, no matter the theme -which is what I made sure to do in this Y2K set. 

It ranges from late 90's to early 2000's EDM, pop, hip-hop, R&B and rap and its all tied together through EDM versions of those songs.

DJ Retrograde - YK2 @ Our Wicked Lady Set 3/15/2023

My purpose as a DJ is to bring fresh sounds, grow the rave community by bringing people together and awaken the collective through EDM to bring back the true essence of what the rave scene used to be about -which is Peace Love, Unity, Respect and Responsibility (PLURR). 

Behind the scenes, I practice nights before a show and prepare my sets in advance to ensure that I am working with the best tracks that blend well together. I create meaning / symbolism with songs that are on trend and new songs that tell a story, spark up a conversation or ultimately get the crowd on their feet. 
Aside from that, I also symbolically blend the astrological energy into my sets, speaking the language of the stars through music. I consistently update my music catalog every week as well as I attend many EDM festivals / raves so I can gauge what songs get the crowd going (as well as myself). I continually grow crowd-pleasing playlists that still diversify all types and ranges of EDM as well as incorporating other genres outside of EDM to my playlists; such as early 2000’s remixes, latino, pop and hip-hop. Much like a music festival -the beginning of my sets are typically dramatic and theatrical, while the ends are left with a heart-thumping bang or a heartfelt moment with the crowd that brings people together at the end of the night -leaving the crowd wanting more.
