"Surrender" Ecstatic Dance Corfu

I recorded this set on 10/13/2024 at Arillas Soundgarden in Greece, the mecca of ecstatic dance. I had already prepared another set, but 2 days before I found this set too dark and sad... So I prepared a new set with the intention of making a bigger change in my life and overcoming my own depression and sadness of the past year. I decided to play a “best of” my sets that I played in the past year, because while playing and dancing ecstatic dances, I mostly go through my dark and sad emotions and turn them into joy and happiness by the end of the dance. In this set I also started using stems, which was a wonderful opportunity to mix a techno track with a beatbox track from Singapore in a way that is only possible with stems.

I uploaded it 4 weeks later and I can tell you: I managed to get my life mostly out of my depression...thanks to the decision to get up emotionally with the help of this set!!!

I hope you will also find joy and happiness in listening and dancing to this set !

"Hakuna Matata" Ecstatic Dance Corfu

On Sunday the 08.12.204 i played a special “get ready to christmas” ecstatic dance set in the cosy & warm Tree-Temple of Soundgarden!
An energetic Ecstatic Dance set, infused with inspirations and subtle quotes from beloved Christmas carols. Prepare for a high-energy journey that blends festive melodies with vibrant beats, igniting the dance floor and celebrating the christmas spirit.

In my German tradition, the Advent season is a cherished time to prepare for Christmas. Each Sunday in December, another candle is lit on the Advent wreath. This Sunday marks the second Advent, symbolized by two candles glowing. By the fourth Sunday, all four candles are lit, signifying the approach of Christmas. Advent creates a warm and festive atmosphere, gradually building anticipation for the holiday.
As shown on image, this tradition is symbolized by the stag’s antlers, which represent the Advent wreath. This sunday, two of the four candles are illuminated, reflecting the special significance of the second Advent.

This is my birthday concert I played with 12 friends at the opening of my Arillas-Soundgarden.

It was a magical day and a concert full of intensity, beauty, and deep connection. I am so grateful to have such incredible musicians as friends and to have had the honor of singing and drumming with them.

One of the most touching moments for me was in the second half, when we communicated only through our drums on stage – in a wonderful, intuitive connection. A moment where everyone put their instruments aside, and we all drummed together. Pure energy, pure unity!

It’s absolutely worth taking half an hour to experience this unique, high-quality concert.

This very tribal ecstatic dance set I recorded on the 22.03.2025 @ LovEcstatic Dance Paris - Célébration du Printemps. It was one stop on my „Love Yourself - new song release tour 2025“ through Europe. I played in 2 month 16 Ecstatic Dances in 15 different Dance Communities and I drove more than 10.000 km with the mobile home I rented for the tour. It was a journey of so much fun and deep connections with so many beautiful dancers and space holders of ecstatic dance - with always unique approaches of space holding and community energies. What a blessing !!!!

We can‘t always choose the music life plays for us, but we can choose how we dance to it !!!

DJ & owner of Arillas Soundgarden on the beautiful island of Corfu in Greece. Host of the year-round weekly Ecstatic Dance on Sunday mornings.

For me, ecstatic dance is art, culture, joy and healing. As a DJ and dancer, it allows you to free yourself from things that you are unconsciously stuck in… and you can do that just by going through your own automatically triggered processes through the music and the energy in the field of all the dancers present.

In the 80s/90s I was a successful vinyl DJ and club owner (Unterhaus Karlsruhe). I was a resident DJ in Frankfurt (Dorian Gray), Stuttgart (ZAP), Pforzheim (Scandal, Café Cairo) and many more. I also had DJ bookings in Ibiza (Pasha, Amnesia), Zürich (Rohstofflager, Oxa, Streetparade), Berlin (Planet, UFO, Loveparade) and many more. 

My personal highlight was to play together a „back-to-back“ with the legendary „Grandmaster Flash“ at a B-Boy battle in 1997.

At the end of 1990 I opened one of the first DJ schools in Germany and then supported newly founded DJ schools in other cities. In 1999 I ended my vinyl DJ career and worked as a paragliding instructor, among other things, until I founded the unicorn startup Volocopter in 2012. Since 2020 I have left the operational business at Volocopter and am now a world and time traveler.

On January 1st, 2023, I started back behind the (now digital) DJ decks. Since then, I've been hosting weekly Ecstatic Dance at my event/retreat location "Soundgarden" in Arillas on the island of Corfu in Greece.

Since 2 years I train my voice in throat and overtone singing. As SpaceDeer, my signature move is to sing in the intro phase of my Ecstatic Dance sets.

About Ecstatic Dance:

Ecstatic Dance is a danced meditation that frees people from things they're stuck in. As DJs we start with longer intros without beats and slowly transform the energy to one or two peeks to get the dancers really ecstatic... we also try to go through different energies - sadness, anger, happieness, freedom, peace … and a variety of genres and extraordinaire/crazy tracks are welcome. But always organic electronic dance music is a base of the sets. At the end there is also a longer phase with slow beats or just sounds/noises to bring the dancers to the floor and guide them to lie still on the floor for 5-10 minutes... to integrate their inner processes that have unfolded during the dance.

Main rules of ecstatic dance:

- no talking during the dance
- be sober (no alcohol or drugs)
- dance barefoot
- no judgement of your own or others movements/behaviours
- contact dance is welcome, but only in respect of your own - and of the others boarders.
