Here is a new audio trip by Solarythm (@solarythm_deeptech_side). We met this lovable human at several music gatherings, and his devotion to sound as well as his taste for organic textures naturally led us to invite him for an episode on our channel. 
He chose here to highlight the phenomenon of hypoxic dead zones. Beginning the mix by describing the serenity and symbiosis of a marine area, he then rises in energy by relating the stress suffered by the species when the oxygen level drops, until the dystopian vision of the dead zone expressed by the gloomy end of the episode. 

Jeremie Kagan is a 25 years old producer from Nantes, on the French West coast.
Known for his Forest Psytrance Live launched in 2014 (@j-r-mie-kagan), he decided more recently to start self-production to share his own vision of hypnotic techno. From melancholic atmospheres to hypnotic and mental grooves, his music invites us to an introspective journey through psychedelic and ambient notes.

In some rapidly expanding regions of the world, oxygen levels are dropping in marine waters to low enough levels that the surrounding biodiversity eventually collapses. This occurs either through reproductive disruption and forced exile for the more mobile species, such as most fish and mammals, or through asphyxiation for fixed and slow-moving species such as corals, crustaceans and shellfish.

While some areas become dead zones naturally as a result of particular weather phenomena or currents, most of these hypoxic areas have been subjected to an influx of fertilizers and nutrients from agricultural sources, as well as acid rain, which encourages the development of algae and plankton. This causes what is called a "bloom", a phenomenon visible to the naked eye by greenish or cyan clouds in the water. These species then rapidly consume aquatic oxygen, until life in these areas disappears. Other causes identified include pollution, the dumping of sludge and sediment, which hinders the penetration of sunlight into the water, and climate change, which contributes to the warming of the water and the depletion of the oxygen it contains.

In 2016, the scientific community identified nearly 400 dead zones worldwide, representing 254,000m². A note of hope, dead zones can be reabsorbed thanks to efforts made to renew water bodies, particularly by reducing the urbanization of coastlines and by a more sustainable agriculture, allowing the natural resilience of marine ecosystems. For example, the Black Sea dead zone that existed in 1991 had completely disappeared by 2001, after the cessation of fertilizer use in its vicinity.

For February's show I was joined by London-based artist @jinsynth - Jin is one of my absolute favourite producers and DJs right now, and she blew me away again with her beautiful ambient set for the show.

She's had a busy schedule so far this year, including an East Asia tour (which saw her play at iconic Seoul venue Vurt), as well as appearances at Mostra Festival in Barcelona, Astral Industries x Hypnus in London, and Above Below Festival in Hertfordshire. She also runs the regular deep techno party, Mondo Mistico, which has its home at London's cosiest event space, Spanners. Big recommendation for any Londoners looking for deeper sounds!

Born in Sardinia, Berlin-based DJ and producer.
Luca's sound is a hypnotic deep techno wave, that has been embraced by the best underground clubs in Rome for the last 10 years. Starting with Goa (where he was resident for 7 years) and then Rashomon, Vicious and other underground parties (the most recent being RARE:). He went on to play in other international clubs, as the legendary Tresor in Berlin. He has always rigorously played vinyl.
Over the years he has also approached production: in 2005 he successfully completed a diploma at Digital Audio Technologies (DAT) in Rome.
His sound is delicate, abstract, soft, pure and profound.
