East-London's Riva Starr joins Defected's illustrious list of House Masters as he continues to establish himself as one of the world's top DJs and producers. Growing up surrounded by the rich musical culture of Southern Italy, Starr's influences come from all over; the sounds of Africa, Greece, Spain and the Balkans are ever-present within his revered house releases. Genre-wise his approach is similarly expansive, first falling for breakbeat after years of experimentation in Naples, before exploding onto the UK fidget and deep house scene in the noughties. Years later, the Snatch! owner's epic catalogue is brimming with the very best club music this side of the millennium, unrestricted by genre convention and bursting with eclectic samples and unpredictable references. This compilation features club belters alongside deeper cuts that seamlessly mix addictive vocal samples with hard-hitting house rhythms, as well as expert remixes and collaborations with fellow industry titans. Dames Brown continue to build upon their Defected success with this remix package from the soulful innovators Floorplan. Fresh from their double release on Classic Music Company that received major BBC Radio 1 attention, ‘We Give Thee Honor / Makes Me Wanna’, the fellow Detroiters lend their unmistakeable brand of eclectic, gospel house to ‘Glory’ for a match-made-in-heaven remix that celebrates the two neighbouring genres of soul and gospel. ‘Glory’, featuring Dirt Tech Reck label founder Waajeed, saw the uplifting track spotlighted by BBC Radio 6’s Craig Charles, capturing the effervescence of the Dames on his flagship show.

Named King of the Edit since the 1980’s, pioneering Manhattan DJ Danny Krivit’s (aka Mr K) latest delivery instils the title bestowed upon him some 30 years ago. An esteemed selector Danny’s prolific remixing and production capabilities have touched hundreds of records – with his signature flare shaping the New York City sound. Opening the two-track release is Danny edit this summer’s seminal track The Vision’s ‘Heaven’, interweaving a gloriously groovy bassline with Andreya Triana’s vocal to produce an extended, DJ friendly mix that he sent crowds wild with at Dekmental Festival. Up next, Mr K delves a little deeper into the Defected catalogue, trying his hand at The DangerFeel Newbies’ ‘What Am I Here For (Original NDATL Vocal)’. Danny’s stripped back version extends the jazzy, percussive original, as velvety smooth vocals and elegant keys bring this expressive and sophisticated release to a close.

When Mike Dunn released his Classic Music Company debut ‘My House From All Angles’ last year, the album was met with critical acclaim, The Guardian writing: “God may have made him funky, but Mike Dunn has kept it going ever since.” Now, two stand out cuts from the LP are given the remix treatment, enlisting some of the label’s closest cohorts to re-work these two irresistible hip-house jams.
