The World To Me

Although other cities in the US might be seen as hubs for dance music on a global scale, Seattle has continued to prove that there's more than meets the eye. Nestled in the Pacific Northwest, this city has become a home for many artists in the scene who have put their creativity on full display, and ZOF is one rising through the ranks and turning heads along the way.

Over the years, ZOF found a home on an array of imprints in the house music realm, including Box Of Cats, Techne, Desert Hearts, and more, all while carving out a unique niche for herself in the scene. Add in some performances at festivals like EDC Las Vegas and curated nights hosted by Space Yacht, and it's easy to see that she's destined for greatness.

In 2023, ZOF took another creative step forward with her debut album, Nostalgic Premonitions. While her previous releases resided in the bass house and tech house realms, this collection of tunes saw her add her lyrical prowess and a touch of pop into the mix while putting the emotional roller coaster she's ridden since before the pandemic on display. Each track is placed with intention, and as the story unfolds, there's no doubt that you'll feel a relatable tingle inside your soul.

As ZOF rides the wave of her fantastic album into the new year, she's made it clear that there's plenty more in store. But before the onset of 2024, we caught up with her to dive into her roots in the scene, the creation of Nostalgic Premonitions, and so much more for our final artist spotlight of the year. Poundtown 02.03.2024 - Opening Set

On Saturday, February 17th, I was thrilled to be able to venture back down to my old stomping grounds of Portland, Oregon, and play a Trance guest set for the boys behind Mission Trance and Team Yellow, at Opaline Nightclub in the heart of NW Portland in the Old Town district. I was joined by some fellow Trance enthusiasts and up-and-coming Portland DJ’s, Anthony Julian, and Dougal Sorcha, whom completely blew me away with their awesome sets and performances, and of course, OG Portland Trance Master and avid promoter, ZOXY. We had a great little crowd of local Trance fans dancing the night away that evening, and this show was so much fun to play at, just like all of my previous experiences playing at Opaline; kind of bare bones set up, but with a cool, underground sort of vibe, just large enough to feel like a club, but still a smallish, more intimate setting, with a great sound system and great drinks! Anyway, I had a lot of fun with this set, and since I was first on, I wanted to kick it off slow and have a nice build, and ended up using three tracks by one of my favorite producer Duo acts and creators of a non-stop list of spine-tingly bangers, Alex Sonata & TheRio. I included “Nebula”, which I had played once before in 2021 during a COVID quarantine streaming set, but I had always wanted to play it live to an audience, such a great track.. I also broke out one of my all-time favorite tracks from the archives, “Cloverfield”, by 19 Hz, SO great to hear that track again after so many years. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this set as much as I enjoyed playing it, and just a heads-up that I will have a new Prog Sessions uploaded sometime soon, with some really beautiful and mellow, soulful tracks as well. Bogotá duo Rush City — aka Jonahlo and Joint4Nine, and heads of the Ritmo Terco label dig deep into their crates for this second vinyl outing, delivering four razor-sharp reworks that balance nostalgia with dancefloor punch. Spanning boogie, Italo disco, electro, and deep house, each track is reimagined with a tasteful blend of analog grit, acid textures, and precise drum programming.

Opener “When Your Ex Wants You Back” breathes new life into Surface’s 1984 boogie anthem, fusing its soulful acapella with 808 rhythms, acid basslines, and shimmering synths for a raw electro-funk twist. Following “Brown Sugar”, lifted from a rare 80s adult film soundtrack, becomes a dubbed-out, indie-leaning acid disco tool — weird, seductive, and undeniably effective.

On the B-side, Dream 2 Science’s deep house classic “My Love Turns To Liquid” is transformed into a hypnotic acid roller, stripping things back while keeping the soul intact. Closer “Don Quichotte” rebuilds Magazine 60’s Italo gem from the ground up — with re-recorded vocals and fresh synth work, it’s a full-throttle electro bomb.
