DJ Angel B! Presents: Soulfrica Vibecast (Episode XXXII) Afro Frequencies

Marvin Gaye is perhaps one of my all-time favorite music artist. Since I was a young boy playing my fathers record collection I was always fascinated with the sounds, tones and vocals which infused so much love, pain and conviction in his songs. In the 1970's he recorded two concept albums where he had complete creative control on the recordings. Both titles "What's Going On" & "Let's Get It On" would combine R&B, Blues and Orchestrated textures that were unlike anything ever recorded in that era.

Today Marvin's music has influenced so much of what we hear, this mix was created as a tribute to display the many combinations of soundscapes and melodies he has evoked from his artistry. I began the mix with a live classic ballad "Wholy Holy"... The finale where I recreated an artistic dubbed version of "What's Going On" which highlights the instruments and a ghostly vocal that harmonizes discreetly in the background, bringing Marvin home!

With so-much happening in our world today especially in the U.S., Civil unrest and a BLM Movement that has spread around the world, it's no-wonder that Marvin saw his pain of being a Black Man in America as a threat . . . a threat to a privileged white American society that would still to this day demean and violate the very common human rights of an American!!!

He was tortured and dehumanized. Till this day, Señor Campos resonates for us Puerto Ricans the cry of freedom, the resistance, and the pride that has never faltered of the call to freedom and unity! At 1:58.00 I take the musical journey back to my NYC Latin Roots, celebrating my Nuyorican incarnation! 

I dedicate this mix to Señor Campos and all my peoples who continue to fight the everyday struggle of independence!

Police brutality continues to operate unchecked and both Black & Brown lives continue to be murdered unarmed. The United States leads the world in human rights violations and remains to this day the highest incarceration rate of Black & Brown people in the world.

This musical journey begins with spoken word artist Amanda Gorman with her incredible inauguration speech "The Hill We Climb"Re-Edited By Yours Truly! Listen to the soulful voices blare "Let The Sunshine In" we are incapsulated by the stories told of the Black diaspora, infused by the songs of often pain and liberation. The 2nd hour I present Black music in this body of work also known as House Music, bringing the journey to a climatic dance of freedom and spiritual insurrection.

Angel B, has been a name synonymous is the NYC music scene since his early inception in 1982 where he founded “Hands On Wax Productions Inc”. Nuyorican Born and raised from Bushwick, Brooklyn, Angel B! started playing music professionally as a resident DJ at a Brooklyn roller-rink known as "Sweet Rubies", Spinning early Hip-Hop & Top 40. Eventually, Angel would be discovered by a talent scout and would become a worldwide DJ-Entertainer for Club Med Vacations. He is an original member of one of the first professional record pool known as R.P.B.C / I.D.R.C. Where he would make his mark in the New York City’s NYC's hottest clubs such as: 10-18, Palladium, The Copacabana and La' More East during the late 80's & Early 90's. Today, Angel B is the creator / curator of the Soulfrica Vibecast. Each episode, is a musical story told through sound, infused with the elements and foundations of Afro-Latin-Soul.
