Voici encore une pépite des années Soul Funk des 80s, a sa naissance, le groupe est composé de sept musiciens aux multiples talents, dont cinq garçons et deux filles.

Dans les années 1980, Cool Notes arrive à la 11ème position du UK singles chart avec leur hit single « Spend the night.

Steve McIntosh, pour sa part, a toujours aimé la musique et a appris à jouer au piano pour devenir un grand claviste.

Chacun d'entre eux a ainsi quelque chose à apporter aux autres et s'aperçoivent qu'ils pourraient bien jouer ensemble.

Ils se demandent alors s'il serait mieux de fusionner leurs talents et de les amplifier au sein d'un groupe.

Ainsi Ian Dunstan à la basse, Lorraine McIntosh et Heather Austin au chant, Joseph John Charles et Peter Lee Gordon à la guitare, avec Peter Rowlands derrière la batterie et Steve McIntosh aux claviers, telle fut la répartition de Cool Notes depuis sa formation en 1984.

En 1984, sans tarder, les sept artistes créent et enregistrent leurs premières chansons. « You're never too young » ainsi que « I forgot » cartonnent déjà au UK singles chart .

« You're never too young » arrive à la 42ème place tandis que « I Forgot » est classé numéro 63 du chart.

Les Cool Notes sont plus que contents de ce bon départ et ces premiers exploits. Ils continuent alors leur création. Estimant pouvoir faire mieux encore, ils se lancent sur-le-champ dans la composition d'autres titres à succès.

Ainsi en 1985, leur meilleur single « Spend the night » fait la une des stations radio britanniques. Les musiciens sont arrivés au top de leur réalisation.

Leur single est sacré numéro 11 du UK singles chart de leur pays. « Spend the night » deviendra même le single emblématique de Cool Notes .

La même année, ils se font connaître également à travers les chansons « In your car » et « Have a good forever ». « In your car » connaît à peu près le même succès que « Spend the night ». Il se fait classer 13ème au UK singles chart si « Have a good forever » est au numéro 73.

A part ces succès, l'année 1985 voit également la sortie de leur album « Have a good forever ». Contre toute attente, l'album arrive à la 66ème place du UK albums chart.

En 1986, le groupe enchaîne avec les singles « Into the motion » et « Momentary vision ». Cette fois, les Cool Notes arrivent à imposer « Into the motion » à la 66ème position du UK singles chart.

Mais désormais, les membres du groupe ont perdu leur enthousiasme d'avant et souhaitent poursuivre leur route chacun de leur côté.

Ainsi Lorraine McIntosh, Ian Dunstan, Heather Austin, Peter Rowlands, Peter Lee Gordon, Steve McIntosh, Joseph John Charles se séparent et tirent un trait sur Cool Notes en 1986.

4 ans plus tard, en 1990, leur top single « Spend the night » a été remixé.

Puis en 1991, un autre single « Make this a special night » sort sur le label PWL record
