076 is a hazy 90 minute trip from the deep, dubby darkness into somewhere unfamiliar yet inviting.  These tracks fuse and collide together to give a distinct sense of traveling somewhere. Perhaps even a spiritual or karmic journey, a pilgrimage to somewhere sacred and ancient,

Downtempo, World, House, Techno, Dub, Bass, and many other esoteric influences join our dance as we let the music take us there.

Live from Sotto on 5/12/21! Recording was started an hour into the set (:

077 was AZZA’s first outing at Sotto Nightclub in downtown madison.  Playing for the first time in a place you’ve visited often but never DJ’d is a fun and exciting task! 

What will I play? How will I share music that is personal and authentic while also being approachable and fun for a new audience that isn’t familiar with my typical sound?

Sotto is fun because it’s known as a great place for UW students as well as people near State Street  to break a sweat on the dancefloor.

This set was just that - a great introduction to a modern day AZZA set where the goal is to have a great night w/ friends and dance along to some funky and funny tracks all night long. This is a long one so don’t be afraid to start while you’re prepping your surroundings for your next party or kickback 😆

The day has come! After months of discussion and theorizing, my wonderful yoga teacher Brittany Waltz and I threw our first Yoga-DJ gig.  

And WOW it was a fun and challenging time digging up the right tracks for this gig - combining different styles of music to mirror an hour of delightful and physical yoga instruction. AZZARadio 059 is an all vinyl techno set with some of the most mechanical, most mischievous, and most funkedelic grooves in all of my music - digital and vinyl! 

Records from this mix were gathered over a few years and frequently came from record shopping while traveling.  Heavily featured in this mix is techno produced in Italy (Naples in particular). This set is perfect for a long focused activity requiring high energy levels as the mood varies from intense to goofy but the BeatsPerMinute stays high(130's) and chugs along like a locomotive.

Photo was taken and edited by me of the UW memorial terrace at night with the lights reflecting on Lake Mendota.  Title of mix is a reference to Naples, Italy where many of the great techno/hardgroove records featured come from :)

Music is miles beyond a hobby for AZZA: it’s his very lifeblood. 

Three decades of musical obsession always finds him listening, dancing, on aux duty, playing jazz piano, producing, digging in dusty crates, reading & discussing music journalism, and always burrowing down the next musical rabbit-hole for the rush of uncovering that next great track.  

Through more than a decade of quasi-religious concert attendance, passionate study of the dancefloor, and eight years of spinning himself, he has fostered a unique love and appreciation for the magic only a discoball and a DJ can provide – love he feels compelled to share with any who will listen. 

In every endeavor, AZZA seeks to create a story with others by journeying through the deep, dreamy, spiritual, hypnotic, and groovy with friends of twenty years and twenty seconds alike.
