Retrospective: the best of 2022

Please enjoy my (nearly) 3-hour live set from the Crown & Anchor in Provincetown, MA, for Carnival Week 2016. 

As you'll be able to hear, this year's theme was "Back to the '80s"! While I got in most of my big remixes, I can't believe I didn't have time to fit in what I had cued up by Pat Benatar, Simple Minds, Rick Astley, Depeche Mode (or more Madonna and Erasure!) -- I'll just have to do another '80s-inspired set soon!

I really miss working at night, the dj booth, the energy of the crowd, my colleagues, friends, lights, loud music ....  all.
Every now and then I put on a record that I love, I close my eyes and I let myself be carried away by the sound and memories, and that's how I made my latest project. 
NOSTALGIA made me go back in time to my roots, when I enjoyed browsing old vinyls or single CDs in search of a new remix or a new song.
I'm sure we'll all go back to dancing together until morning, with more energy than before, but until then let's get carried away by the music and its emotions.

NOSTALGIA - the mixtape vol. 1 - SIDE A

Of all the live sets I have ever played, this is by far the one I have been asked to upload the most. A 3 hour journey of non-stop club anthems, this is one of my favourite live sets ever, so exactly one year since playing at the incredible Tropical Fruits 2019/2020, I'm finally giving in and am sharing my recovery party headline set.

After losing all my USB memory drives with the hours of new songs I planned to play only a few hours before my set, I had to play to the crowd while basing things around my ideal Mardi Gras party set list. I had no idea that a few days later I would be invited to play at Mardi Gras party, so there are clearly duplicates between the two setlists.

Even so, this serves as a perfect bookend to 2020 along with episode 81 - Retrospective, the best of 2020.

Tropical Fruits: Live, January 1st 2020

Los Angeles-based DJ Blacklow (Jeremy Blacklow) grew up on the dance floors of New York City inspired by the house music of the '90s. In 2011, Blacklow finally listened to friends' advice and took his love of music to the next level, playing bars, clubs & events throughout Southern California, before going on to become a successful DJ and producer who is now touring the world.

Blacklow's sound is a mix of classic house, tech house, disco, nu disco, progressive, and tribal house, with a trademark sound of soaring vocals throughout each set. He seamlessly blends the old and new to create an incredible high-energy dance floor journey on every outing. A standard Blacklow set includes a heavy dose of throwbacks and classics, mixed with the latest tracks drawn from a wide array of inspiration.

Blacklow’s production work includes several singles and remixes with his Texas-based production partner of the past four years, Stephen Jusko. Their first collaboration, a remix of Katy Perry’s “Never Really Over,” caught the ear of Perry’s manager, who gave them the official studio stems for her next single, “Small Talk,” which quickly became their most downloaded and listened to single ever. Together, Blacklow and Jusko have also remixed singles by Lady Gaga (“Rain On Me”), Kesha ("Where Did You Go?", “Raising Hell”), P!nk (“Never Gonna Not Dance Again,” “Just Like A Pill”), Alanis Morrisette (“You Oughta Know”), Chappell Roan ("Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl", "Pink Pony Club"), Zai (“Clouds”), and Debby Holiday (“Love & Beats”) and more. 

In December 2020, Blacklow and Jusko put out their first single together, a cover of the ‘80s Scandal anthem, “The Warrior” with vocals by Audrey Callahan for Queen House Music, which quickly soared to the top of Beatport’s Top 100 Big Room charts. Two complete remix packages followed in January and February 2021. They followed that up in the fall of 2021 with a cover from Callahan of Pat Benatar’s “Shadows of the Night,” with remixes that have served as gay anthems for the fall of ‘21 and winter of ‘22. 

In the summer of 2022, Blacklow and Jusko collaborated on a cover of “Believe It Or Not” (the theme song from “The Greatest American Hero”) with vocalist Brian Kent, which was released on Swishcraft Music. And in June 2023, the dynamic duo released their first Original track together on Swishcraft, an LGBTQ anthem titled “Love Lift Me Up” featuring vocals from the incomparable Debby Holiday.  

In 2024, his new mixes with Jusko of Zhana's "Looking For A New Love," Brian Kent's "Carry Your Light," and Nick Rashad Burroughs' debut single, "Gym Crush," have been lighting up dance floors. His Future House mashup of Yonce's "Texas Hold 'Em" also went viral, with over 20k streams to date. 

Other Blacklow high-energy remixes include “To Be Able To Love” (with George Figares feat. Brenda Reed, Swishcraft) Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Cut To The Feeling” (with Figares), and “Party For One” (with Hector Fonseca), “Beautiful Trauma” (P!nk), “Brave” (Sara Bareilles),  Bo$$ (Fifth Harmony), two explosive remixes of Ellie Goulding’s “Flux,” and the tracks “Fierce,” “Faces” and “Better Days” from NYC-based singer Mila Jam.
 
With so much momentum behind him, Blacklow has several exciting gigs and productions in store for 2024. Hard at work on several new post-pandemic projects, Blacklow remains one of the most exciting DJ/producers working today.
