Rhythm Makers - Monterey (DJ Blue Funk's 'Chemical Wash')

New music for a new year! Let's kick things off with a disco edit of the stellar funk/disco group L.T.D. Their cut "One On One" was the 1st cut on their fabulous disco album "Devotion" from 1979, but did not get a single release. I edited it in the vein of the classic disco era 12" edit and then created a shorter edit for the also customary 7" pressings made at the time. I hope y'all dig! Stressed Out (Blue Funk "RIP Phife Dawg" Remix)

A true prime cut from the fantastic afro-cuban-funk band Mandrill. I worked very hard to get a proper rub of many of the elements comprising the JBs track "Straight Out The Jungle." Starting off with the classic breakbeat, the perfect scratch intro, the DJ'd bridge, and of course the fantastic bass, guitar, and horn riff from non other than Mandrill. 

I had to pitch up the version significantly for demo-purposes, so head on over to hearthis for the original version. Also, if any DJs want a copy, please contact me.

Mango Meat (Imported Straight Out the Jungle)

First batch of edits from this summer are 2 stompin' disco joints, reconstructed & chopped for extra grooviness. First of the two is a dance classic that grooves with a funky keys-lick & a ferocious bass-breakdown that has been packin' the floors for years. While the music is splendid, I wanted a version with different vocals, so I took on the duty myself of creating a new version that will hopefully light up some dancefloors! The second tune is a recent, rather obscure find off of a TK subsidiary. This tune packs a big punch with a funky bass-line & some delicious percussion work, another big groove to boot. Unfortunately no great recordings were available (even the remaster) so I had to do with what I had. Cleaned it up the best I could, and chopped it up for maximum enjoyment! Hope you dig all the sounds coming your way. Thanks for the support.

"It's all good baby-baby!" One of the crown jewels of golden era hip hop, the ultimate feel good summer jam of juicy, gets a dj blue funk disco treatment... I stumble upon the piano loop two years ago after finding a 45 of Andrea True Connection's "more more more" in a free record bin. I knew it would serve as a great base for an uptempo, feel good hip hop jam, so I thought Juicy would be a good choice for the vocals. Looped up some drums & grabbed the trumpet part as the bridge, a nod to the Herb Alpert sample in "Hypnotize." The sample source is a somewhat sleazy tune that I don't much care for, but staying true to the hip-hop idiom of "making something out a nothing," I found gold & flipped it into this jam. Hope you enjoy, "and if you don't know, now you know!"
