There is a tradition of digging in DJ culture that involves venturing out into the stacks and exploring the possibilities afforded by the previously unheard sounds sourced from neglected records. There have always been adventurous DJs that would travel in order to hunt down new audio to incorporate into their own material, but Brace takes this practice to an archaeological level. 

For this release he spent time immersed in the cultural atmosphere that he discovered while touring China, soaking in the influence and allowing it to infuse his creative juices. The result is a recipe that is based around his defined production style, but seasoned with bold flavors that give it a distinct taste. 

Samples unearthed during his journey wrap themselves around his staccato beats in ways that take full advantage of the possibilities afforded by the fretless fader. 
It's a delectable platter served up fresh. Get it while it's hot.

"Long-time friend and collaborator DJ Brace, who is one of Canada´s finest scratchers and producers who did all the cuts on the Ancient Astronauts album Into Bass And Time, on Kabanjak´s solo album Tree Of Mystery and he remixed Classic feat. The Pharcyde from AA´s debut album We Are To Answer. His remix of Still A Soldier shows of his fine skills as a producer and DJ with his trademark style of warm and tight beats combined with killer scratches. To round up this remix and give it a real organic feel Brace invited some friends to his studio to add Kora (Zal Sissokho) and Darbuka (Guillaume Fouquet). The result is full of beautiful harmonies with forward rocking beats and scratches."

AEDAN (OF C2C) GO (Brace Remix)

After winning a Juno for best instrumental album of the year with Nostomania, Brace decided to start his own label by the same name to honor music of a similar kind. Nostomania records has already released a 7”, entitled Everyday featuring ESL Artists, Ancient Astronauts, and the Brown Bag AllStars. Synesthasia is the second album from Brace’s Electric Nosehair Orchestra Project.

Part of the concept for Nostomania was the idea that sound can pull up long neglected memories. Synesthaisa is something like a crossed wire in the brain where one sense connects with another; a color might have a certain smell, or maybe you can taste a sound. Once again visual artists were asked to provide images inspired by the songs on the record, but this time around don’t think about the places you’ve been.

Synesthasia opens with something that sounds like a mothership landing at some distant port of call. That’s the first clue that you’ve arrived in a strange land. Suddenly an unknown voice gives you the instruction to relax, and it’s time to let the music take control of your senses and guide you on your journey.

While there are some familiar elements from the last time around, it’s no longer what you’ve heard, seen, tasted or smelled before. So don’t be afraid to forge some new connections, and be sure to take a mental snapshot of whatever you might find.

Synesthasia - NH26

DJ Brace - And Then -- DJ JFB (DMC World Champ) Remix

Switchstance Recordings presents you the second collaboration project for 2012. The long awaited team up of Brace & Kabanjak.

These two musicians are no strangers to the international scene, with Kabanjak being an artist on the ESL music roster and Brace being a Canadian DMC Champion and Juno Award winner (Canadian Grammy). Both have collaborated on such successes as Ancient Astronauts’ Classic EP, Into Bass and Time album as well as Kabanjak’s debut album Tree Of Mystery. Through these experiences they felt it was only natural to produce together.

Upon Brace's first visit to Kabanjak’s hometown Moers, his host suggested to visit the town’s park. Brace never did see the park in Moers, however they worked for three days next to a tree of mystery to produce the beginnings of what would later become Abra Kabra.
Sessions were passed back and forth between them, each time surprising one another with added tracks which included newly recorded instrumentation and sequencing with every session exchange. Though this project was recorded on two different continents, it sounds like both were working in the same studio at the same time.

Besides the rich live instrumentation by Brace and Kabanjak, artists from around the world were asked to join in and play a role. These performers include the likes of Hugo Kant (France), T.J Blair (Winnipeg, Canada) and Guillaume Fouquette (Montreal).
The 5-track EP is a journey into mystery and magic, where the two collaborators invite you to allow your mind to go where the music guides you. The record will be released on November 23rd 2012 on Switchstance Recordings.

ESL Music drops the Classic EP the first 12” single from Ancient Astronauts’ debut album We Are to Answer. First up on the A side is “Classic (12” Remix)” that adds extra horns and punch to the original hip-hop track featuring rhymes by The Pharcyde.  Not to be outdone, DJ Brace smooths out the rhythm and centers the track on luscious string arrangements.
