Another Pon de Beats, another warmup set~
My first performance of 2024 happened in Cologne on Feburary 17th. I've performed as the first DJ of the night for Pon de Beats -Yukihime Matsuri-.
Since the event was planned as a spiritual successor to BrainShit's Snow Love event from a few years back I've decided my set to use the main style from the set back then: UK Garage.
And to spice things up I've decided to switch gears and play some Drum'n'Bass at the end to properly start the party.
As always, Pon de Beats is all about Anikura and Anison remixes so I pretty much played only remixes again. I hope this set delivered a good starter to get into the groove for the event!

Shout out to the people who requested a Shugo Chara track and "Perfect Free", at least managed to include these two requests into my set.
And special thanks to VJ Kazandu for putting on lots of awesome visuals during my set.

Ever since I first saw MOGRA back in the Ustream days, I had wanted to go there and party. An actual, IRL event with anime remixes?! Seemed like only a dream to me. Fast forward 8 years, and I partied at MOGRA for months, getting to know the absolutely incredible staff, DJs, and VJs who would frequent it as well.  And then, nearly 6 years later, I found myself on the stage I had watched for over a decade, looking down on a crowd of friends both new and old from all around the world. Words can't describe it.

Not only was it significant to me and Hijack to play show a MOGRA, but it had meaning to the community on the internet as well, who too have been following MOGRA for over a decade. At last, it had happened; a bunch of nerds from an online r/a/dio station finally did the impossible and saw the invisible and row row fought the power to play at what some consider the Mecca of Anison. Tasked with closing such a significant event and with all those thoughts and emotions swirling around, I created what was the absolute best set I could at the time to celebrate what an incredible moment this was to our community as a whole and express myself fully using my experience to my absolute limit. 

This set was a wild ride filled with a multitude of genres and bpms, traversing a wide range of sounds and emotions. Every single song and layer was included for a reason. Some were for the online community, some for the people present, and some for personal reasons as well. If you're really curious, feel free to reach out to me. The only one I'll mention here is the Red fraction x Guardian Angel layering:

While partying at MOGRA, one DJ was playing Red fraction, and then started to bring in Guardian Angel. I immediately flipped out at how hype and awesome it was, and looked around to see if  anyone else was losing it like me. I caught the eyes of someone else who was doing the exact same thing I was. In a full crowd, only us two knew what was happening; in fact, the rest of the crowd didn't seem to recognize Guardian Angel. After the set, I went up to the DJ and complimented him on it, and he was surprised I knew both songs and the shows they were from. It was then that he asked me "Are you a DJ?", to which I replied "No, I'm just a fan." This conversation is one of the biggest influences, along with the "APPLY TODAY" spam, that made me pick up the decks.

Endless thanks to everyone who made the event a reality; gekko for being a superb VJ, all of the Hijack and guest DJs and VJs, Orin, D-Yama, Kei, the MOGRA staff, and listeners both in person and online. Playing there was literally a dream realized, and I'm so happy that I was able to help make the experience a special one. MOGRA is a magical place, and I hope to return and perform there again one day.
