This is the closest thing to a Drum and Bass mix that I ever put together. It starts off in break beat land and steadily works its way up into the higher tempos. 

This mix was originally inspired by my friend Leigh Xist Bailey [RIP 2023], who was the first and only person to ever book me for a Drum & Bass show. Since I failed to record the set, this is a rebuild of the live set, that night, at The Bobo Gallery - downtown Asheville NC circa 2009.

This is a live recording of the last battle, of the last Southeast B-Boy Championships SEBC 10 event on September 14th, 2019. 

I have always been looking for a way to release a live B-Boy Battle mix without compromising it's integrity with a massive amount of editing in order to render something that anyone can understand and enjoy. Ironically, the final battle of the final SEBC turned out to be just the thing i was looking for.

To the experienced, this will come as no surprise due to the typically disjointed nature of these all-day events: random announcements, volume swings, occasional technical difficulties, mic levels, recording quality, off beat dancers, sloppy Dj's and so-forth.

Personally, my approach to DJing battles is based primarily on the behavior of the competitors on the floor. I am Djing according to what they are doing. That being said, you will notice that the timing of the mixing does not present as properly as a party set or a mix-tape, where we have the luxury of maintaining more precise timing.

To the uninitiated, a 7-To-Smoke Battle is basically a 1v1, king-of-the-hill style contest where the winner of each round continues and the loser goes to the back of the line until they get another turn, along with the others. The first dancer to win 7 rounds in total, wins the battle.

Played this set Friday Night at Famtastic 8-8-2025 and rolled it over into the AVLFMG 21st Anniversary 8-9-2025 on Saturday Night. The Saturday performance at The Full Moon was better in my opinion, since I had the opportunity to revise a few details along with a 2 hour time slot that gave a chance to let a few things go a little longer.

So, for my Famtastic people, this is basically the same set.

For my Full Mooners, this is the second hour of the 2 hour set, to hear the first hour, i guess you just had to be there =]
