Downtown Santa Rosa is bustling with drunken tourists and frat boys. (They've paid their fair share to the bars there, so they're allowed to congregate in public after dark. Not all Santa Rosans are so lucky.) Less than two blocks away, the quiet mechanic shops, empty warehouses, paycheck advance services, unsavory motels, extremely local cell phone carriers, and tourist-unfriendly Asian markets rest in alternating yellow street lights and neon signs that perpetually read "OPEN." Perhaps the businesses leave the signs on as a service to the community - they can get away with sharing their pretty colors in public spaces, but the artists who live in that neighborhood can't. Run-down 30-year old cars look especially poetic in the flashing flood of lights - neon from the side and yellow from above.

Did I fall in love with this place because it's all I had, or because it's truly beautiful?

Blink 182 is one of my favorite rock bands. Their first album, along with "Neighborhoods" are some of the few albums that I regularly listen to all the way through. 

I've always wanted to play this song out, but I never thought I could get away with it. Well now I'm just gonna drop it at the end of the night if I'm playing moombahton. heh. Enjoy, share, tell your friends, and comment! =) -br

All The Small Things (DJ Broken Record Remix)

I've been a fan of Tony Wakeford since high school. This song by Orchestre Noir (entitled "Dawn") is so dramatic that it's ALMOST ridiculous, but he pulls it off brilliantly. I've always wanted to remix it or use it somehow. It was a little challenging to transition it into moombahton/reggaeton but I really like how the energy builds and pays off. This track also includes the first of many Cumbia inside jokes: my ridiculously loud, over-side-chained sonidero voiceover, complete with dub delay feedback. The samples at the beginning are a reference to Cumbiahtonical Volume 1, plus a reference to the Charlie Clouser ("Saw") influence.

Orchestre Noir Intro

Arvo Part is one of my favorite minimalist musicians ever. I tried remixing Spiegel Im Spiegel but I couldn't get it to sound danceable. Trying to tackle the behemoth that is Berlin Mass would have been impossible, but I always loved the Kyrie. This beginning melody is what stuck in my head, so I tried my best to replicate it. The track starts out really serious, but then the listener is confused by the typical moombahton party vocal drops. The melody is so epic that I knew I had to make this an extreme song. It has 3 main parts, including tempo changes, and a minimalist shot out to Arvo. The reason I called this an original and not a remix is because I only used the one melody from the entire mass, and I don't even know if I got it right.

What can I say? Munchi invented Moombahskull and the rest is history. This track combines Philip Glass, Moombahton, Cumbia, Skullstep, and Castlevania. Yes, the video game. The first thing that came to my mind when I heard the word "metamorphosis" was Alucard casting the "Dark Metamorphosis" spell in Castlevania: Symphony of the NIght, which is one of my favorite video games (and pieces of art) ever. BUT ENOUGH TALK! HAVE AT YOU!

This track took FOREVER to finish. It's designed to make you wait impatiently for the drop, especially the second time you hear it. The beginning is appropriately minimalist, to the point that it's self-aware. Notice the over-use of the Cumbiaaa sample, sonidero style.

Current 93 is one of my favorite artists of all time. I was very, very hesitant to post this, because I didn't want my c93 tribute to be one measly remix. I wanted to do an album, but I couldn't find enough songs that I could remix. If anyone wants to do and EDM Current 93 tribute album, hit me up. I post this with the utmost respect to David Tibet, one of my biggest musical influences.
