- I'm a professional video game producer, I recently took a little break from the scene to launch a Warhammer 40k video game as I was the project lead and we had a great review from TotalBusicuit, so life goals achieved haha!
♪ Is it true this will be one of your last set as Hard Kitty? And if so, where to from here?
- This is totally true,
After launching the video game it gave me a much needed break to re-focus on where I wanted to go with my music career. I've been turning down gigs over the past few months to allow myself to work on my new music project and it's come to the time where I'll be playing only one or two more events before Hard Kitty as a brand will be hanging up her headphones and ready to start something a little new.
I've already been playing quite a few underground Doof parties and festivals with some big bookings already lined up playing with my new alias Cathrin. There I play a two styles, full on psy-trance, and a second style that is a mix of UK hard electro, qult, tech dance, and generally big chunky wobbly basslines but at a slightly slower bpm that you'd be used to hearing in a harderstyle event.
I'm going to be moving away from the hardstyle scene and this will be one of the last sets I do. more specifically my last classics set.
♪ Like Technikal, you are originally from the motherland. How does Australia's and England's scenes differ?
Australia definitely has more dong and picnicking. England has worse teeth but less bumbags - The only place you'd see a bumbag over there would be in a retirement home for out of work 80's actors. In England they have this have a hilarious stomp and waggle your head like a chicken dance, paired with an action figure style rigid arm hand cop action that is pretty funny. Although I'm not sure anything can top Australia's running backwards on the spot clapping your hands under your legs dance.
♪ You have found a new appreciation and passion for Psy-Trance. Will there be a little Hard Kitty/Cathrin cross over at REHAB?
Since I'll not be performing for much longer as Hard Kitty, I'm going to go all out on the harder stuff. For REHAB I'm going to be re-visiting everything that people know and love about the Harder Styles. It'll be a bit of a journey through my years mixing up some belting Hard Dance classics moving through to modern high impact reverse bass with those brutal baselines. It's going to be packed with energy, and good vibes.

A European Hard Trance Odyssey,

I've always thought that DJing and in fact all music in general is more than just an expression of musical talent... All well established DJ's and Musicians will tell you that it's an emotional journey. Odyssey is a mix that does exactly that for me. It seems some of the newer DJ's of today are afraid of starting their sets off softly and building it though waves of energy to a climax. Opting instead to start hard, finish hard and play hard in-between. If you applied the same logic to sex then you'd be over and done in 2 minutes... and we're in for the long haul baby!

Genres such as trance have been know for the journey their sets provide, but sadly in some cases it seems not to have passed on to its hard trance siblings. So I guess we've all been guilty of it, but I thought it'd be good to say to all the newer DJs out there. You don't have to start a hard trance set at 155bpm for it to be hard hitting. The music is much deeper than that - tell a story, tease your crowd onto the dance floor and bring it up to a climax.
