I’ve always been into all sorts of dance music, from House and UKG to Old Skool Hardcore and Techno, Breaks, Bass, 130, 140, 160 (yes I realise I’m just saying numbers now but I think you get the point). I’m into lots of different music not just drum and bass.  

So with that and for this podcast I’ve recorded some vinyls, pested mates for track ids and delved deep back into the world of House, Garage and Bass for a 90 min journey through past present and future music. And I suppose that’s the ethos behind the event; Be_Social...

The idea is to bring people together through music, and what better way to do that! A bunch of timeless classics, a fair dose of bass heavy bangers and some fresh meat in there for the hungry ones.

Recorded at another legendary club - THE END in London this mix is an hour of pure gold!!  Both of these guys at this time in 2009 were reaching the very top of their game! Times were changing and events like Renegade Hardware were evolving with times.

This is another mix that was recorded during the lockdown of 2020, however this one is geared more towards the Liquid and Soulful side of drum and bass.

Alix has always been a champion of the liquid soulful dnb and this mix is no exception to that. 60 mins of real smooth grooves blended in Alix’s unique style of mixing. Another mix that got us through a really difficult period of time.

So for me this set marked a clear change in the direction of the music at the time.  We went from the hectic and heady days of 92 rave to what was later to be termed Drum & Bass.  Again this is one of the first set that I would consider Drum & Bass. 

Anyway LTJ Bukem alongside Mc Ribbz was just a perfect combination and this set always takes me on a journey.

This is another one of those sets where LTJ just absolutely lays it down!  There's no MC on this recording too, so the beats just roll!

I remember at the time the term "Intelligent Jungle" was being thrown around and not really knowing the difference but fast forward 20 years and you can certainly hear it - it was very different to what most of the mainstream djs of the time were playing.

LTJ Bukem - Love Of Life 'Intelligent Jungle' - Late 1995

With Drum & Bass now firmly established as a worldwide thang, Bukem and Conrad took their unique sound on the road, no further than JAPAN!!  Up to this point I'd never even thought that DnB would ever become a UK wide thing let alone worldwide.

This set is peak Bukem and Conrad for me, we'd chase them all over the country to hear their sets and when this came out we pretty much wore the cd out (if that's possible).

LTJ Bukem Featuring MC Conrad – Progression Sessions - Japan Live 2002

This mix was originally broadcast on BBC 6 Tom Ravenscroft in July 2015 and was sent to my by a friend.  I think his words were something like "You'll enjoy this, Bukem is playing a bit tougher than usual" and guess what he was right.  

I'd not listened to a Bukem set for years at that point and this was music to my ears.  40ish mins of music I'd never heard before.
