Darker Days

Bristol-based producer Gilbert steps into the time machine with this wonderful EP that sonically and spiritually connects to the early works of Warp pioneers such as B12, LFO and Speedy J. 

The first track Ylem starts with a strong kick but is nevertheless a subtle builder that directs you straight to deep space. Shift the Focus, the opener on the flip, may well be the EP’s most suitable track for the (dreamy) dance floor - the cut’s dense melodies and subtle 303 flavours work well with Gilbert’s rhythm section and would slowly but surely draw you into a psychedelic swamp when played in a club. The tracks Lucid Dream and Are We Alone are even a bit more otherworldly and fitted for an armchair listen. A big tip for anyone into layered, mind-bending UK techno!

As a bubbling member of Australia’s house and minimal scene, productions via No Art, PIV, and Dailycid have seen exciting Aussie Litmus emerge onto the global landscape and make some noise across the past few years. Showing no signs of slowing, his ‘Plus One’ EP on Up The Stuss showcases a wealth of vibrant solo flavours while partnering up with Berlin’s Black Loops for a crisp collaborative sprinkling of house delight. The package is backed by French live act and man of the moment Leo Pol as he delivers a heady remix of the title cut to shape things up in style. Title cut ‘Plus One’ launches into the action as rumbling basslines, skipping drums, and zigzagging electronics combine.

PREMIERE: Litmus & Black Loops - Madonah

The Technology EP is the third release from LDLDN (NTS Radio, Spacebass) on his Natural Frequency Records imprint, following on from the success of ‘Make Time’ in Summer 2021.

This abstract, bass-heavy 4-tracker riffs on the idea that modern technology enhances, dominates and changes our lives. Technology shapes us as much as we shape it.

The EP opens with the title track “Machine Code”, an 808-driven house jam wrapped in LDLDN’s typically layered, lush synth chords. Front foot and futuristic.

“Technology” takes a classic deep house workout and heightens it with an elastic bassline and crystalline piano riffs. A stuttering, pitched down vocal reminds the listener that electronic music has no boundaries.

‘Haptic Feedback’ drops the pace but increases the intensity, with a growling, rolling bass riff punctuated by heavy, doubled up kick drums. 90s-style key stabs push and pull throughout a track that has a weird energy of its own.

The EP closes out with ‘Digital Love’, an elevated love letter to technology. Pure movement, driven by a jacked up bassline and soaring keyboards that speak to digital desires.

The ‘Technology EP‘ will be released on 8th July 2022 via Bandcamp and streaming platforms.

Here is the live recording of my sunrise set at Envision Festival, 2023. 

This set features tons of unreleased music from my label Sol Selectas, coming out in 2023. I also got to play several of my favorite feel-good classics.  I was only supposed to play 2 hours, but Envision was kind enough to let me continue for another 30 minutes. The energy of the beautiful crowd was pure electricity, and kept me going. Thank you to the lovely crowd of sun worshipping dancers, the Stage managers and Sound techs, and the festival organizers. Enjoy this audio journey, and for those who there, I hope it brings back some timeless memories of that special morning we shared together.   Pura Vida!
